| Orbison at his best. This set of discs sounds just great. The DVD-A exceeds the DTS and Dolby by some considerable margin. Buy it and enjoy an artist and fellow performers having a good time, all well recorded with instrumental separation and clarity that makes every note clear. By Bruce M. (Adelaide South Australia.) |

Animals Retrospective CD (2004) Top Seller
Black & White Night songs Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult.
Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). By '67, the original lineup disbanded, and Eric Burdon led a new batch of Animals into a psychedelic West Coast sound ("San Franciscan Nights," "Monterey"). The Animals may not be given pride of place in the rock history books, but RETROSPECTIVE shows that they fully deserve it.

Blue Man Group Audio (2000) Top Seller
Black & White Night CD music For years before the release of their debut CD AUDIO, the Blue Man Group had been dazzling audiences with theatrical performances that featured their unique music along with their zany yet focused visual presentation. Onstage, the trio (augmented by additional instrumentalists) plays a percussive, almost tribal brand of instrumental music that involves both ancient instruments such as the cimbalom, and Blue Man-invented items including the Drumbone and the Drum Wall. With a combination of Ennio Morricone-ish guitar lines, overwhelming percussive thumping, and a combination of acoustic, electric, and electronic sounds, the music of the Blue Man Group suggests some alternative universe where pop as we know it has a slightly skewed character.
This DVD features the Blue Man Group who set the theatrical world on fire with off-beat humor, tribal music and stunning visual effects. Includes 14 tracks such as "Unte Live Wire," "Cat Video," "PVC IV," "Shadows" and more!

Who Tommy (1969) Top Seller
Black & White Night buy CD music This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
The definitive rock opera, TOMMY liberated the Who from a "singles band" stigma, marking them as a substantial artistic force. Composer Pete Townshend had flirted with the conceptual format on two previous releases, but here his vision is spread over two ambitious records that play to the Who's main strengths. Anthems such as the raucous "Pinball Wizard" and the surprisingly serene "I'm Free" emphasize the kinetic power of the band, while Townshend's cast of characters (the perverted Uncle Ernie, the inscrutable Tommy) reveals a wild and unconventional imagination. Townshend even incorporates Sonny Boy Williamson's "Eyesight to the Blind" as part of his fable about the "deaf, dumb, and blind kid," making a successful reference to the past in what is an undeniably groundbreaking and forward-looking achievement.
Additional Audio Material - 1. Original demo versions of many songs

This is more than just an album by a great American band; it's THE great American pop album, an ambitious foray into the intricacies of harmony and melody. Masterminded by Brian Wilson, it changed the rules in rock & roll. Wilson's production brought record-making to a new level. He perfected Phil Spector's wall-of-sound into a more complex, stunning approach. He was inspired by the Beatles' RUBBER SOUL, and PET SOUNDS was, in turn, an inspiration for SGT. PEPPER.
The devoutly romantic "God Only Knows" and the hopeful "Wouldn't It Be Nice" reflect an innocent time of yearning post-adolescence. From the complex upward progressions of "You Still Believe In Me" to the heartb

(Import) Remastered; Deluxe Edition |
Black & White Night CD music The Moodies were a prolific lot in the late '60s. This, the post-Denny Laine lineup's fourth album, was the second to be released in 1969. It was the group's most mature, fully realized effort to date, arguably surpassing even the milestone DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED in its elegance and vision. The Moodies were always capable of both songcraft and experimentalism, but this was the first time they combined them both successfully. Mike Pinder's dramatically arcing mellotron is the perfectly complement to the group's lush vocal harmonies, which are colored by rich acoustic guitar textures.
Things open on a mind-bendingly psychedelic note with the electrical storm of "Higher and Higher," but soon the waters calm. Justin Hayward's brief acoustic ballad "I Never Thought I'd Live to be a Hundred" is among the band's loveliest tunes, and it leads into "Beyond," an ambitious instrumental that is the Moodies at their most progressive. Throughout the album, the mixture of winningly melodic balladry, poignant folk-rock and ambitious prog-rock leanings combine for what is one of the Moody Blues' most satisfying albums.

Marvin Gaye Marvin Gaye Collection (2003) Top Seller
Black & White Night buy CD music If James Brown is indeed the Godfather of Soul, then Marvin Gaye is surely soul music's counterpart to Ol' Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra. (Gaye in fact began his career singing Sinatra/Nat Cole-type standards.) Like Sinatra, Gaye could inhabit a song, make it his own, and transform ballads into preludes to seduction ("Your Precious Love," "Let's Get It On"). Unlike Sinatra, Gaye wrote many (very fine, classic R&B) songs and could get very funky ("Trouble Man"). COLLECTION is a nice primer to Gaye's biggest hits (including some duets with Tammi Terrell), and is sure to make you crave more.
