| | Jacka Jack Artist CD (2005)
Dyin 2 Ball CD music
$13.15 Enter the Jacka. The death of 2Pac in the mid 90's ripped the heart out of West Coast Hip Hop. At the same time a young street poet named the Jacka was honing his skills in the Bay Area Rap game. Always open minded, he was influenced by b-boys and thugs, pimps and Imams. The Jacka has since developed into an established, well-rounded, well-versed emcee in the right place to bring the West Coast some serious attention. The Jacka's music is a reflection of his life. He witnessed the birth of the dope game and the drug war that followed, as the battle was waged in his community, on his block, and in his house. Memories of departed loved ones haunt his mind and soul. His release is to share his experiences through his music. Reality hurts. Rap is the Jacka's medicine. That and some purple. Jacka's success proves his mettle as an emcee. He has been featured on over ...

| | Autoliner Be CD (2001)
Dyin 2 Ball music CDs
$13.85 Autoliner's second album (their first was originally released under the band name Life on Mars, but another band with that name complained, so it was reissued as the album Life on Mars by the band Autoliner) is a huge leap beyond their good but at times rather generic debut. There's a newfound psychedelic feel to the trio's songs, and a bigger emphasis on the soaring three-part harmonies that are the cornerstone of their sound. Having three singer/songwriters in a band is usually a recipe for artistic diversity that ...

| | 5th Ward Boyz Rated G (Chopped & Screwed) CD (1995) Chop
Dyin 2 Ball music CDs
$13.89 All songs written by Andre Barnes, Eric Taylor, Richard Nash and/or Mike Dean except "Swing Wide" (Andre Barnes/Eric Taylor/Richard Nash/Chad Butler/Bun-B), "Busta Free" and "Step Into My Hood" (Andre Barnes/Eric Taylor/Richard Nash/Derek Edwards).
As the title indicates, the 5th Ward Boyz's second album, Rated G, is nothing but straight-up G-funk. The group works the standard booming bass and slinky keyboards for all they're worth, and they occasionally come up with first-class tracks like "Concrete Hell," which comes through with a subdued, muscular force. However, the group can't sustain that power throughout the course of the album. Frequently, Rated G is simply competent -- it's well done, but delivered without much style or originality. None of the members is a particularly distinctive rapper, nor is the music exceptionally produced and arranged. Even with these drawbacks, Rated G remains enjoyable. It is the work of talented, but not inspired, imitators and will do if The Chronic and Doggystyle are sounding stale. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
