In addition to some of the all-time staples of soul music, including the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' "The Tears of a Clown," and the irrepressibly joyous Jackson 5 songs "I Want You Back" and "ABC," there are some lesser-known gems. These include the hearty funk-soul of Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate" and the orchestral, psychedelic R&B of "Smiling Faces Sometimes" by the Undisputed Truth. The album also features contributions from Edwin Starr ("War") and Rick James ("Mary Jane"), as well as such usual suspects as Marvin Gaye (with his defining paean to sensuality "Let's Get It On"). Though many listeners are likely to own these tunes on other albums, it is impossible to knock a collection that contains as much straight-up classic R&B as MOTOWN: UNMIXED.
MOTOWN: UNMIXED is the companion disc to MOTOWN: REMIXED, a project that features original Motown singles filtered through the imaginations of hip-hop and electronica DJs and producers. UNMIXED features the original singles as they were released in the 1960s and '70s. In this sense, the disc is essentially a compilation of great Motown tunes, many of which will be immediately known to anyone vaguely familiar with the label's revered legacy. Motown: Unmixed Review

Motown: Unmixed album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, ...

Motown: Unmixed CD music
$14.19 In the nearly five years since Ashby's auspicious debut, Power Ballads, the duo of Eveyln Pope and William Cowie didn't change much, which is a good thing for anyone who fell under the spell of their beguiling indie pop sound. On Looks Like You've Already Won, their feather-light blend of gentle melodies, rich arrangements, and electronic underpinnings remains intact, only this time out there is less in the way of electronics and more horns, flutes, and general Bacharach-ness. More importantly, the songs ...
