Former cop Vito Cipriani (Oliver Reed), who now works as a prison warden, is forced to free a convicted criminal (Fabio Testi, FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE) when his wife is kidnapped and held ransom. In order to track her down, he must become like the criminals he abhors, and as a kidnapping turns into evidence of government conspiracy, Cipriani takes the law into his own hands. Both Reed and Testi turn in charismatic, powerful performances, and the film is notable for its restraint, painting a portrait of the mostly gray areas between the black and white notions of good and evil.
