| | Jane Monheit Taking A Chance On Love CD (2004)
Best Of Rick Price CD music
$9.99 While the early 2000s bore witness to a bevy of youthful standards singers with earnestly traditional vocals, New Yorker Jane Monheit preceded Norah Jones, Michael Buble, Katie Melua et al. She wowed the jazz world when she was barely out of her teens with her 2000 debut, NEVER NEVER LAND, and quickly ascended to stardom. Monheit's fourth record, 2004's TAKING A CHANCE ON LOVE, expresses her love for movie musicals of the 1930s and '40s.
From both Monheit's song choices and the fervor she pours into these selections, it's virtually impossible to challenge the sincerity of her affection. Monheit opens by finding a truly original, offbeat angle to the oft-visited Fats Waller classic "Honeysuckle Rose" and continues to connect throughout the 11 subsequent tracks. She teams up with the aforementioned Michael Buble on a charged version of the always-lively "I Won't Dance" and finds every ounce of sultriness in "Why Can't You Behave?" and "Dancing in the Dark." As with most ...

| | Peter Cincotti On The Moon CD (2004)
Best Of Rick Price songs
$9.59 As a teenage piano-and-vocal prodigy, Peter Cincotti was, predictably, subject to criticisms of being nothing more than a pale imitation of his influences. On his second full-length album, ON THE MOON, however, the New York City native exhibits the type of quiet confidence that normally takes decades to develop. Unlike many talented youngsters, Cincotti is neither rebel nor revivalist. Rather, he combines a bit of the bluesy New Orleans raunch of his mentor Harry Connick, Jr. with a distinctly Big Apple sophistication that's as much Brill Building as it is Blue Note. The result is something at once fresh and accessible, based in classic forms yet quite contemporary.
Phil Ramone's clean, dry production insures that the focus is always placed squarely on Cincotti's ...
| | Il Divo Ancora CD (2005) (Import) Germany
Best Of Rick Price album
$17.09 Knowing how to strike while the iron is hot, the international all-male pop-opera revue Il Divo, assembled by AMERICAN IDOL's Simon Cowell, followed up its 2005 debut (and subsequent Christmas album) with yet another outing in early 2006. Here the dashing vocal quartet--Urs Buhler (Switzerland), Sebastien Izambard (France), Carlos Marin (Spain), and David Miller (U.S.)--stays true to its multi-lingual repertoire, offering up a suitably dramatic Spanish version of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" ("Solo Otra Vez") and an English/French rendition of "I Believe in You" (with Celine Dion), among other numbers. While the arrangements on ANCORA ...
| | Ot Azoj Klezmerband Klezmerband Live CD (2001)
Best Of Rick Price CD music
$12.39 There's a joy about klezmer music, especially of the more traditional sort; it seethes with life. And Holland's Ot Azoj grasps life quite firmly on this live recording. Even the slower pieces have a vibrant heartbeat, and beneath the minor-key ...

| | N W A N.W.A. And Their Family Tree CD (2008)
Best Of Rick Price songs
$9.79 It's hard not to shiver as Priority's N.W.A Family Tree compilation opens with the iconic line "You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge." One quick scan down the track list and the hip-hop faithful know there are more unforgiving and/or provocative gangster rap masterpieces to come, but the concept here is more the stuff of historical magazine articles than it is something on which to build a mixtape. Sure, Warren G and Nate Dogg are from the West Coast and their "Regulate" is filled with California street knowledge, but past that, the track owes as much to N.W.A as thousands of other gangster rap songs, and a couple hundred of those are better choices for the concept at hand. If this set really ...
