Hip Hop Connection album
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments ...

| | Paul Lockwood Positive CD (2000)
Hip Hop Connection album
$6.69 Sounding like a cross between Noel (good) and Paul Lekakis (not so good), writer/actor/singer Paul Lockwood wrote or co-wrote nine of the 11 tracks on his debut album, and it shows in how personal the lyrics and the vocals are. Inspired by the loss of several of his friends to AIDS, he is angry ("Call Me Mad"), hopeful ("Positive"), and out ("Bring It Up, Bring It Out"), and each track has a good hook and quite interesting production. Though much of this material came from loss, it isn't all political, and what is political isn't a turn-off. Lockwood tackles his pain and his rage, and the result is cathartic, keeping it from being tedious or preachy. His vocals are uneven throughout the album, which makes the production seem cheap, but he comments in his liner notes that the sharps and flats in his singing were left in, because life is imperfect, and "the real beauty and joy comes from living and loving despite" those imperfections. Obviously a labor of love, this album is strong overall, and proceeds will go to various AIDS charities. ~ Bryan Buss
Paul Lockwood's solo debut is an eclectic mix of R&B, jazz, pop and dance that was recorded to benefit a number of AIDS organizations, including Gay Men's Health Crisis, The Children's Hope Foundation and The Columbus AIDS Task Force. Both the CD and its first single, "Why Do I," topped the album and singles charts of Outvoice, a weekly gay and lesbian top 40 site. The songs, nine of which were co-written by Lockwood, reflect his diverse taste in music and his desire as an indpendent artist to travel as many roads as possible. A long-time back up singer, actor and writer who happens to be gay ("Hey world, it's just a fact of life, like having ...
