This 2-DVD set includes the PG-rated film by Gene Hackman starring Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper. Basketball is king in the small town of Hickory, Indiana, so local residents are outraged when the new coach makes a few unorthodox choices concerning the high school team. But the coach's mixture of patience and toughness eventually wins over the town, and succeeds in delivering the athletes to the state championship. Based on the incredible true story of how a small-town high school's basketball team became Indiana State Champs in 1954. This film follows the controversial outsider who came to town to teach high school history and coach basketball and who was not afraid to make big waves in a small pond. Hoosiers Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  Greatest basketball movie of all-time.....
...this is the movie that has it all: drama, suspense, love, hate, jealousy etc. Plus of all the basketball movies i've seen this film truly captures what basketball is all about. It's about hard work, teamwork, being disciplined physically and mentally. Today's NBA game should take note since it's lacking in all of these aspects. This movie is a journey. Gene Hackman has been in many classic movies, but this could be his pest performance.

After seeing several of Gene Hackman's movies, I came to the conclusion that his best performance was in "Crimson Tide" opposite Denzel Washington. I still believe that, but the job he did on this movie is nearly as wonderful, and seems much more difficult to pull off. The reason: he all but carried "Hoosiers." His part is truly the ONLY part that anyone cares about (though the town drunk gets some good publicity). Not to overstate, but this movie, as well as Hackman, was great and deserved all the accolades it received.

This smart, sexy thriller, the debut feature from director Andrés Waissbluth's, was a hit in its native Chile and was well received on the festival circuit. Adopting the theme of the young country boy's loss of innocence in the urban underworld, it's structure is intriguingly presented and paced, divided into three sections told from three different perspectives. Two brothers from the south move to Santiago after their mother dies, and older sibling Silvio takes the 17-year-old Victor to a strip club to celebrate his birthday. The brothers are quickly caught up in an underground life of crime when the club owner, gangster Don Pascual, asks Silvio to work for him. Silvio complies and quickly rises within the ranks, but Pascual's mistress, the femme fatale and stripper Graciela, holdholds a power over all three men that is fraught with inchoate disaster. Depicted in the raw, energetic manner of social realism, the performances of the characters are believable and moving, and the clever editing lends significance to the themes of power and corruption that characterize the film.
This sexy Latin thriller features Antonella Rios, Nestor Cantillana, and Alejandro Trejo.
