So & So: Mukai Meets Gilberto
$12.59 Guitarists Dave Specter and Steve Freund have been personal and musical friends for many years. Specter has always straddled the blues/jazz fence with a hip disregard for arbitrary restrictions, and on this CD, he once again puts his distinctive mark on
Personnel: Dave Specter (guitar); Dave Specter; Rob Waters (Hammond b-3 organ); Harlan Terson (bass guitar); Steve Freund (vocals, guitar); Mark Hummel (harmonica); Barrelhouse Chuck (piano); Marty Binder (drums). Audio Mixer: Steve Wagner . Liner Note Author: Dan Kening. Recording information: 06/17/2004/06/18/2004. Photographer: Peter Amft. The long established musical relationship between guitarists Dave Specter and Steve Freund goes back nearly 20 years, when Specter sought out Freund as a guitar teacher. They have shared many stages, but this marks the first occasion that they have recorded together. In the best of the Chicago blues tradition as illustrated by the legendary Delmark label, Is What It Is is a loose, swinging, tough blues date filled with great tunes, inspired playing and loose-groove vibes. While Specter has become well-known for his jazzy blues playing, his former teacher Freund has stayed close to the roots of the Chicago sound. That contrast works beautifully here on both covers and originals. Freund's tunes are some of the bets on the set as evidenced by the opener "My Little Playhouse." One of the reasons for this is his deep, clear soulful singing which adds punch and nuance to the dueling guitars Specter brings classy elegance to the set in his instrumentals, like the title track that carries a deeply Southern-fried ...

| | Andy's Automatics Things Have Changed CD (2005)
So & So: Mukai Meets Gilberto
$17.75 It's a genre that's been described in many ways. Some call it traditional country, some call it hillbilly and grassroots country, and some call it alternative country or Americana. We call it a pure, unadulterated original blend of smooth-groove honky-tonk, rockabilly, and REAL country music. But after hearing standards by Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, as well as current artists like BR549, The Derailers, The Bottle Rockets, and Cigar Store Indians, you may have to put your own label on Andy's Automatics, especially after hearing their solid interpretations. But despite performing exciting versions of their favorite artists, the main focus of the group has been the writing and recording of Andy's Automatics' original songs, which unite Andy's passionate lyrics and artistic melodies with his powerful delivery. This high-energy band is sure to have you leaving their show with a refreshing appreciation for many styles of country music. Formed in late 2002, the band got off to a rousing introduction, opening for the renowned ...
