| | Lee Ann Womack There's More Where That Came From CD Lee Ann Womack Discography of CDs
(8 Customer Reviews)
Though Lee Ann Womack's voice has always betrayed the influence of 1960s and '70s country music, prior to THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM, her albums often concentrated on sophisticated Nashville pop-country. The vintage-style soft-focus cover photo and faux record dust jacket here, however, immediately signal a change of direction.
From the opening honky-tonk fiddle notes of the title track, it's clear that this disc is a conscious nod to the spirit of classics by Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn. Throughout the album, Womack's expressive vocals are backed by careening steel guitars and sweet piano licks, which seem to flow straight from the spirit hands of the late Nashville great Floyd Cramer. Though many of these songs deal with contemporary subject matter, they are treated with a gravity that is purely old-fashioned. "I May Hate Myself in the Morning" and "Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago" take stark and honest looks at life's less glamorous moments in an unflinching manner that lesser artists might avoid. "Happiness" is a gritty, archetypal song of the sort favored by Randy Travis, and the tune compares the search for its elusive subject to a never-ending road trip. With its charming retro vibe and strong songs, THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM stands as one of Womack's finest albums.

Lee Ann Womack There's More Where That Came From Songs There's More Where That Came From Music There's More Where That Came From Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews NOT TRADITIONAL ENOUGH I bought this based on comments of others, but it's not really traditional country to me. It's Ok, but had I heard it first, I would not have purchased. Lee Ann is fine, but the selections are not. Submitted by jake7877 (Hendersonville NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Should Be An Album Of The Year Lee Ann made a fantastic album. There isn't one bad song here. Traditional country fans should rejoice with the use of twin fiddles on a few of the songs. Favorites include the title track, "Twenty Years & Two Husbands Ago," Happiness, and When You Get To Me.
We can only hope that like the title suggests, there's more where that came from. Submitted by tnsmallfry (Nashville, TN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

There's More Where That Came From CD music
$156.55 6 CDs and book - catching them at the peak of their commercial success (late 1960's), this collection shows how they were taking bluegrass in new & original directions. includes "The Story Of Bonnie & Clyde", "Beverly Hillbillies", singles that have neve
The final five years of the team of Flatt & Scruggs is documented on the six-CD Bear Family set 1964-1969, Plus. Their final six recordings together are on a Lester Flatt box set on the same label (Flatt on Victor Plus More, Bear Family 15975). Though the pair never referred to themselves as bluegrass musicians -- because of its association with their mentor, Bill Monroe -- they had a difficult time telling the ever-increasing flood of international fans just what it was they did. Certainly it was folk music, but not the folk music of the folk revival of the late '50s and early '60s, and it was country music, though not what Owen Bradley and Chet Atkins was pushing through Nashville at the time, and while a lot of the music was rooted in blues and gospel, it couldn't be called that either. Flatt & Scruggs were the progenitors of what later pioneers like Tony Trischka, Randy Scruggs, Béla Fleck, and ...
| | Guy Clark Old No.1/Texas Cookin CD (2001) (Import) Australia
There's More Where That Came From music CDs
$11.79 This excellent Aussie import twofer collects a pair of essential albums from the criminally overlooked Texas singer-songwriter Guy Clark. The disc includes Clark's most well-known song, "L.A. Freeway," among its 18 tracks, and is required listening for fans of Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, and other left-of-the-dial country singers.
Guy Clark's sophomore effort sounds more like a party of friends who got together to pick together on a Saturday night that it does a sensitive singer/songwriter outing. Essentially that's what it is, coming as it did in 1975 at the height of the outlaw movement fever. Recorded at Chips Moman's American Studios in Nash Vegas, there is no producer listed on the set, so you can assume Clark did it himself with the aid of his many compadres here, who include but are not limited to Emmylou Harris, Susanna Clark, Johnny Gimble, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hoyt Axton, Waylon Jennings, Tracy Nelson, Brian Ahern, Mickey Raphael, Rodney Crowell, David Briggs, and Chip Young. Songwise, Clark's on a roll here; first there's the wooly party tune, "Texas Cookin'," that celebrates the Lone Star State's particular ability to make their food taste good with beer, and then there's the stunning "Anyhow I Love You," with Emmylou, Waylon, and Crowell accompanying Clark as a chorus. ...
