| | Salvatore Bonafede Journey To Donnafugata CD Salvatore Bonafede Discography of CDs
Personnel: Salvatore Bonafede (piano); Ralph Towner (classical guitar); Enrico Rava (flugelhorn); Ben Street (bass instrument); Clarence Penn (drums); Michele Rabbia (percussion). On this atmospheric set, Italian pianist Salvatore Bonafede performs a set of themes from the film The Leopard. While a few of the melodies are brief and act as transitions (particularly a couple Verdi pieces), there are some strong compositions here that are uplifted by the superior trumpet and flügelhorn playing of Enrico Rava. Rava sometimes sounds a bit like Miles and at other times drops the coolness for some hotter solos. Guitarist John Abercrombie also adds to the atmosphere, as does guest acoustic guitarist Ralph Towner. Although none of the themes (mostly by film composer Nino Rota) are destined to become standards, the rich melodies, Rava's tone (which is often filled with longing), and Bonafede's arrangements make this a haunting and memorable outing. ~ Scott Yanow Journey To Donnafugata Music Salvatore Bonafede Journey To Donnafugata Songs Journey To Donnafugata Review

Journey To Donnafugata
$12.15 Acoustic guitar instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, Ken Totushek-a musician with a mission...In guitarist Ken Totushek's inspirational music one senses the uplifting, soulful, and relaxing flow of sweet sounds often whispering stories from his and others' life experience. Ken's music is down to earth, inviting, and tends to capture the heart of the listener as he leads one through a calming musical journey. His audience has varied greatly over the years, and includes churches, worship and praise events, children's music venues, community concerts and Fall Fairs, weddings, Elderly and Nursing home venues, as well as playing in other countries. Ken's music has always been well received, and for that he is grateful. "It has been my experience that in music, mankind has clearly been blessed with a truly universal language."Ken has been playing guitar since the age of 12, and has studied in more recent years the impact of various guitar construction effects on tone-things such as shape and size, woods used, age, specialty guitar builders (luthiers) of our day, strings, technique, etc. For Ken, any of these variables mentioned can evoke different moods, inspiration, and creativity-"it's incredibly fascinating to me, and seems to have become a lifetime journey exploring daily new depths of musical discovery!" Ken plays his own compositions, as well as those of others that he has arranged. It is not unusual to see Ken with at least 2-3 of his favorite guitars accompany him on stage-each with their own unique qualities and tonal nuggets just waiting to resonate. He does all of his recording, as well as that of others, at Graceworks Recording, his 24 track digital, project recording studio.Of prime importance to Ken, is that the spiritual element woven throughout his music would resonate clearly-and it does. "I believe whatever I do musically is a gift from God, and so whenever I play, I feel I am just giving back to Him that which He has graciously given me. It blesses and inspires me immensely. If there are others around to play for, so much the better, perhaps they might receive some blessing that transcends the physical as well. That is my hope and purpose in playing for and with others...ultimately that the 'Giver of Gifts' ...

| | Maura McKinney Mastro Shamrocks To Stripes CD (2008)
Journey To Donnafugata
$15.19 Maura McKinney Mastro shows that the heart is where hope lives and opens the floodgate in her latest CD release, “ Shamrocks to Stripes.” A catchy collection of her own compositions plus old standards – “Danny Boy” and “Star Spangled Banner” – with captivating vocal accent on familiar lyrics not heard until now. They are songs of faith and family, patriotism and passion. This fourth CD release by Clady Records {produced by Doug Deforest} since the phenomenal debut of “Irish Roots” in 2000, is a montage of music that plays to the strength and charm of Maura’s lilting and far-ranging vocal talent and her intimate knowledge of what makes a heart tick. There is a country flavor in “Everything Changed,” “My Letters Home,” “Nashville,” and “Flowers On Your Grave,” but it is a “country” probe into the melancholy depths of sadness that doesn’t leave you laying there in a pool of self-pity. Maura brings you out on the bright other side. Before recording this collection, many of these songs were debuted before audiences in Nashville and Europe. After one of her performances, a man from the audience approached her and said, “Maura, you sing with a beautiful courage of the medium…you ...
