Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is an early John Carpenter film with explosive impact. A backwater L.A. police station gets lively fast when a man avenges the murder of his daughter and then takes shelter from the murderous gang in the 13th precinct house. Purportedly an homage to Howard Hawks, it matters little when the riotous action starts. Director John Carpenter's second film is a brutal, realistic story about the siege of a small police precinct by a violent and well-armed gang. The gang is seeking the man who killed some of their members in revenge for the accidental shooting of his daughter. After the father enacts his revenge, he wanders to the police precinct in a distraught state. The poorly manned precinct is being phased out of use, and is unprepared for the relentless assult which ensues. The violence in ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 was shocking for its time and has remained so over the years since its release, mainly due to the stark, unaffected direction of a young John Carpenter. Insipired by the cowboy and indian movies Carpenter watched as a boy, the film is more than just an action movie, as it shows the desperation and courage of people living in a violent society. Produced with a modest budget and without Hollywood backing, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is a fine example of how a powerful film can be made with limited resources. Theatrical Release: November 5, 1976.
ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is an homage to RIO BRAVO, a 1959 film directed by Howard Hawks.
As with most of his films, director John Carpenter also wrote the musical score.

Assault On Precinct 13 Reviews: "...Carpenter is an extremely resourceful director [with an] ability to construct film entirely out of action and movement..."
-- Vincent Canby, New York Times "...A tight, tense thriller....Carpenter's eerie score and Douglas Knapp's stylish cinematography give this low-budget shoot-out all the weight of an urban RIO BRAVO..."
-- Dalton Ross, Entertainment Weekly "[I]nstinctively punk....Brilliant..."-- Nick Hasted, Uncut Ranked #20 in Uncut's Best DVDs Of 2005 -- "Carpenter's film is a classic in its own right, a benchmark of lean action cinema."

Assault On Precinct 13 Video Assault On Precinct 13 Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) One of the best "B" movies ever.... John Carpenter is a bad dude...this movie is weird and creepy...gangs of blacks, whites, asians and latinos band together to take out the "pigs", the movie is so suspenseful and over the top that, you just know zombies are going to jump out at any moment and join with the gangbangers...relax they don't, its strictly a dirty dozen, good against bad guy cop movie with the right touch of suspense, gratuitous violence and bad dialogue...I LOVED IT...way better than the remake..... Classic "B" Movie Although the film alters reality a bit, especially near the end, the play between the characters and the music score make this movie a MUST SEE. Submitted by bubbahcream (Hartsdale, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Dynamite action thriller Prototypical low budget action thriller from John Carpenter. Terrific script, score, editing and direction all by JC. This version of the dvd has all the extras we don't get in the UK. Still doesn't say what happened to Laurie Zimmer though. A must see. john carpenter's first and best forget the remake---this is the real
thing---this movie is a classic- a
movie that is tense and keeps serving
suspense to the very ending---the music
score is fantastic---and forget this
being a sequel to rio bravo---to me
this movie is very scary---and i mean
you don't need monsters and gore--this
one is true terror----tension builds
scene fron scene---better buy this--
because of the remake there is
going to be a demand for this DVD Submitted by nat (hoover, alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
RIO BRAVO 2 basically this is RIO BRAVO REVISITED. except this has way more action to it. this is where JOHN CARPENTER really cut his teeth in filmmaking.the story really is about division 13 precinct 9 . it is a great story also written by MR. CARPENTER. and he does the musical score which adds a nice touch with it's driving pulse like thrust and really keeps the movie going along well. do you like shootouts? well you get plenty of them on this movie. nice effects for such a low-budget flick. film has some great one-liners and some humorous moments but is also a great action and serious drama film as well. has one extremely shocking moment with the ice cream vendor and the gang members and has some rather tense moments, but i don't want to give too much away. i can see why this became a cult classic and for JOHN CARPENTER'S really true first film this was a great achievement and would lead to greater things.this shows you how a good director can use little or no resources and come up with a great movie which impresses you with how resourceful and imaginative the director is. fantastic job Submitted by cobrafunk (Edmond, Ok) Was This Review Helpful? $21.19 Based on Matt Crowley's play of the same name, THE BOYS IN THE BAND is a hilarious farce that focuses on the personal mores and identity politics of a group of gay friends at a private birthday party in Manhattan. Released one year after Federico Fellini's SATYRICON, BOYS reflects director William Friedkin's youthful admiration of the personal European films many American directors were emulating at the time. Michael (Kenneth Nelson) is throwing a birthday party for his scathingly self-deprecating friend Harold (Leonard Frey), and the exclusive circle of friends invited are all gay men, all of whom suffer some form of the identity crises imposed by an intolerant society that requires complicit suppression. The release from social ...
