Soaked in sweaty pop-fuelled party-rhymes coupled with thick bass lines, lush melodies and rolling guitar licks, Sneaky Sound System is like beach porn. Think a sun-soaked Grandmaster Flash combined with some roller-boogie; Prince sexed up with some sweaty urban romance; a salt-bitten New Order with funkier riffs. The first single to be released from the album is Hip Hooray, a dirty party funk tune that will have everybody screaming - 'Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me, give it to me'. Whack. 2004. | | Jazzexpress Presents Romantic Moods: Tender Tunes For Loving Afternoons CD (2005) Import
Hip Hop Hooray music CDs
$9.35 This 70-minute compilation is a generally pleasing set of low-key, romantically inclined instrumental and vocal jazz that spans more than half a century. Certainly most of the artists are major musicians, with the roll call including Charlie Parker, Kenny Burrell, Stan Getz, Larry Coryell, Dizzy Gillespie, Hank Jones, Art Blakey, Sarah Vaughan, Red Garland, Donald Byrd, Count Basie, and Woody Shaw, though the consistency's diluted a little by the presence of three tracks by relatively anonymous early-2000s singers. Not all of the players and singers are represented by their best period (let alone by their best romantic jazz tracks), and the absence of dates for some of the recordings sadly diminishes the standard of the package; it really doesn't take that much effort to put those on the sleeve, does it? That won't bother the more general jazz listener, though, who'll find this a reasonably well-programmed soundtrack for mellow moods, varying the spotlight from vocals to horns, guitar, piano, and even strings (on Gillespie's "Alone Together") over the course of the disc. The tempo's almost uniformly slow, as you might expect, with the odd though not unpleasant ...
