For CHURCH IN THE WILDWOOD, Bill & Gloria Gaither meet up with their usual crowd of Homecoming Friends to boom their resounding message of praise through the pines, elms, and oaks surrounding an isolated church. The assemblage of passionate souls who populate the Gaither world lift up their voices with such thrilling thunder that one could imagine their power filling the woods around the church with devotional spirit.
On this outing, the Gaither group, as it often does, focuses its energy on standard hymns, sung live in the most joyous manner. Jeff & Shari Easter open the festivities with the old-time folk of "Keep on the Sunny Side," and the album continues in that vein. There is an almost Woody Guthrie feel running through the record, particularly when the sweet Peasall Sisters sing the fetching "Farther Along." The celebration closes comfortably with Stephen Hill leading the chorus on the always-welcome "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?"
Bill Gaither (Gospel): Gloria Gaither, Bill Gaither (vocals).
Additional personnel: Jeanne Johnson, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Mike Allen, Selah, Squire Parsons, Hayes Family, Homecoming Friends, The Peasall Sisters, Woody Wright, Ben Speer. This might be slightly inferior to 1991's Best of Tracey Ullman on Rhino, as that compilation had a few more tracks (20 to Takes on the Hits' 17). Each of the anthologies has songs not on the other, but either one will satisfy the basic needs of someone looking for an Ullman overview. Takes on the Hits, most importantly, ...

| | Meryll You've Got Cousins CD (2005)
Church In The Wildwood
$17.75 Meryll officially formed in October of 2003 at the University of Texas in Austin. After Andrew, Alex, and Kyle had gotten together to put together a few songs, Meryll played their first show in Waco, Texas with eventual label-mates Ethan Durelle.Over the next 5 months, the group added Art on bass and made their way up into the DFW area, Waco, Houston, and the Rio Grande Valley slowly honing their sound. Early in 2004, Esotype Records offered the band a chance to start working together and Meryll jumped at the chance. In April of 2004, a relationship between the good folks at Esotype and Meryll began to take hold. The group ducked into the studio to record a song for Er Compilation One. Everyone enjoyed themselves enough to the point where Esotype offered the group a chance to do something more involved in the form of a full-length album.Tracking began in October of 2004 for what is now known as "You've Got Cousins." The title of the album is an old lyric from the song ...
| | Warm Gunns Meet The Swan CD (2006)
Church In The Wildwood
$7.49 Formed in 2004, The Warm Gunns were born when guitarist Mark Dannells and frontman Cris Cox joined forces to create the greatest band they never heard. Combined with the superpowers of drummer Reg Rogers and bassist Patrick Kelly, The Warm Gunns came into being. The dynamic result is no surprise since members of the band have played with acclaimed artists such as Skid Row, Butch Walker, Angie Aparo and The Goodies. Each band member brings their own mojo to the table to make a BIG, NEW, FILTHY, BEAUTIFUL noise. The Warm Gunns bring the spirit of REVOLUTION that truly honors the sum of their influences without sounding identical to any of them. Imagine a late 70's Rolling Stones/late 80's Cult hybird fronted by the bastard child of David Lee Roth, Johnny Rotten and Prince. Hard Rock with a Dirty Soul, baby... Review 1The Warm Gunns consumed the stage with its beautiful, filthy presence. Lead singer Cris Cox channeled the spririt of Bowie, Jagger, Prince and Iggy into his stage show...During the set, for every too-cool-for-this-indie scenester who stared at the Gunns with mouths agape, there was someone else with devil horns in the air screaming with his or her (mostly hers) might. The line for the Warm Gunns' merch table stretched halfway down the back of the club wall. In all fairness to the Gunns, they won the crowd over and were much loved...-Chris Parizo/Southeastern PerformerReview 2The Warm Gunns are everything you want from a rock band - dirty, sexy, raw, infectious driving rhythms clever songwriting and an entertaining live show. The real deal!-Michele Rhea Caplinger/Senior Executive Director NARAS Atlanta Chapter Review 3[The Warm Gunns]...send up their praise to the gods of hard rock and mod culture, stopping along the way to baptize themselves in the river Jordan that is modern pop. This is all pretty evident after listening to their debut album DARK FUN. However, what’s also evident is how amazingly well they make this formula work. The core of the Gunns’ songwriting lies in the capable hands of vocalist/percussionist Cris Cox and resident jack-of-all-trades Mark Dannells, who plays pretty much every instrument at a rock band’s disposal throughout the course of the album. You would need a detailed diagram to figure out who exactly is playing what on each track, but the band's ...
