| Superb account of superb singers
We are in EMI's debt for releasing these concert and staged scenes of some of the greatest opera singers of the past 50 or 60 years. The Janowitz, Rita Streich, Windgassen-Frick, and Grummer-Ernest Blanc sequences were concert performances, apparently for French TV. The Tito Gobbi and Boris Christoff sequences were fully staged and shown on the BBC. Gobbi, in particular, with the Tavern scene from Falstaff and the Credo from Otello, steals the show for me. The Windgassen-Frick scenes from Parsifal are very moving. All in all, this is a magnificent issue...one that I have gone back to again and again, and will so in the future. I hope EMI will release more of this!!
