$8.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
Pro Modified CD music
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; ...
| | Katatonia Night Is The New Day CD (2009)
Pro Modified music CDs
$14.04 The latest album from Swedish doom rockers Katatonia, their first studio effort since 2006, is as moody and beautiful as their other latter-day work. The group's career can be marked in two stages based on the condition of singer Jonas Renske's vocal cords -- basically, after the band's first two albums, he developed health problems that prevented him from performing harsh death growls, and ever since the band has moved in an increasingly melodic direction, even covering songs by Will Oldham and Jeff Buckley. It's unsurprising to learn that Opeth's ...

| | Queen Greatest Hits I, II & III: The Platinum Collection CDs (2001) Box Set
Pro Modified album
$15.39 Recorded between 1974 & 1997. Includes liner notes by Jim Jenkins, Jacky Smith, Andy Davis, Phil Symes.
With Queen officially enshrined in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Hollywood Records reintroduces the band yet again with the release of GREATEST HITS I, II & III. While Volumes I and II are full of Queen classics you already know by heart, the third cobbles together odds and sods from the far corners of Queen's canon along with solo cuts from Freddie Mercury and Brian May.
Opening with the operatic rock classic "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's easy to hear not only how this British quartet achieved the kind of global acclaim that ensured they'd be enshrined alongside the likes of the ...

| | Princess Superstar Is CD (2002) (Import)
Pro Modified album
$9.49 Princess Superstar represents the rise of a rap archetype so obvious in retrospect that it's hard to believe the role was never played before. There have been plenty of nice Jewish boys taking up the rap mantle over the years, from the Beastie Boys to Blood of Abraham and the more parodic M.O.T., and there have been a precious few white female rappers (most notably Peaches), but it took the arrival of Princess Superstar for the Jewish princess to fully enter the rap fray.
Princess Superstar brings to her rhymes a swaggering sense of entitlement that extends to sex, finance, the music business, interpersonal relationships, and more. The pure bravado she displays instantly qualifies her entry into the hip-hop game. In carnal terms, she's as nasty as any of the boys has ever been (Kool Keith also turns up as a willing participant in her bedroom games). Verbally, she can sling it with the best of them, delivering breakneck rhymes whose adroit wit finds her name-checking everyone from Kid 'n' Play to Mantronix and Daft Punk. All this verbal action takes place atop appropriately luxurious beats and production that gives equal time to the dancefloor and the lounge.
Straight outta New York City-behold hip-hop's enchantress ...
| | Some Action CD (2004)
Pro Modified CD music
$8.25 Broken bottles, broken instruments, broken bones, broken hearts -- the only thing Some Action might ever fix is rock and roll. They're outlaws in a city where dancing and smoking are illegal, outcasts in a genre where style shines over substance and outnumbered by faux fashion bands full of retro rockers. And yet, here they are: the kids have spoken, the beer has been spilled, many of us have been waiting for this but few are prepared. The tale of Some Action's formation is byzantine and boozy, but all members escaped their own version of suburban hell to make big, rotten noise in the Big Rotten Apple. Guitarist Ethan Campbell learned what it meant to 'live free or die' in New Hampshire while it was more of a 'skate or die' situation for bassist John Gatland in Long Island. Singer Ian Magee came to town via the streets of Baltimore while drummer Zac Shaw headed downstate from the rock star retirement home of Woodstock. After a few introductions and more than a few drinks, the band suddenly found itself blazing a path of rock and roll desctruction from depths of dive bars to the velvet ropes of VIP rooms. With explosive and unpredictable live shows, Some Action quickly built a buzz that rivals most inhalant benders. Besides numerous shows with their good friends in The Star Spangles, the band has played alongside The Weirdos, 999, Detroit Cobras, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Little Killers and The Witnesses, to name a few.Like a vodka ...

| | Nick Bisesi Gemini CD (2005)
Pro Modified album
$13.49 Gemini, Nick Bisesi's second CD as a leader, indicates that when it comes to jazz, the tenor saxophonist really gets it. What does he get? A number of things. Bisesi realizes that jazz musicians aren't obligated to play an abundance of overdone warhorses; except for Johnny Mercer's "I Remember You," everything on this CD is a Bisesi original. He realizes that while intellect is a valuable part of jazz, feeling and expression are equally -- if not more -- important. He realizes that jazz musicians don't need a Manhattan address to be legitimate; after living in the Big Apple, Bisesi moved to Chicago (where he recorded Gemini in 2005). And he realizes that music other than jazz has merit -- Bisesi has backed his share of R&B and pop artists, although Gemini is essentially a straight-ahead post-bop outing. The saxman brings a long list of influences to this session, including Wayne Shorter, Joe Farrell, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, and John Coltrane -- and while he isn't an innovator, Bisesi is his own man. Bisesi (who forms a pianoless quartet with guitarist Neal Alger, bassist Patrick ...
