BISTRO Award and ENCORE Taking-Off Award-winning actress, comedienne, and chanteuse Karen Murphy transports you to the sophisticated era of big bands and ballrooms, starring in Torch Goddess. In Torch Goddess, Karen Murphy recaptures the smoldering sexiness of a time when torch songs topped the Hit Parade and romance was celebrated with stolen glances by candlelight. Resplendent in a sparkling, strapless, midnight blue gown, Karen Murphy portrays the ultimate Torch Goddess. Backed by Jay Leonhart on bass, James Musto on drums/percussion and Fred Barton on keyboard, Ms. Murphy offers exciting arrangements of timeless classics such as "Stranger In Paradise," "Occasional Man," "Cry Me a River," and "Steam Heat." A compact one-hour musical tribute, Torch Goddess is for anyone who ever fell (or dreams of falling) in love.Versatile New York actress Karen Murphy returns to the cabaret stage following her recent Taking Off Award-winning and critically-acclaimed performance in the musical spoof "Zombie Prom." ABC television proclaimed that Ms. Murphy "...invites and deserves comparisons to Carol Burnett," and The Daily News heralded that "Murphy steals the show, belting and camping as the zany principal." As Ms. Murphy brings her formidable talents to the fore in Torch Goddess, theatre, music, and cabaret lovers will discover why Back Stage calls her "a dazzling performer of exceptional talent" and The Boston Globe hails her "broad range of talent and musical styles...magnetic stage presence...brassy self-confidence mellowed by...humor."This production reunites Karen Murphy, Fred Barton, and Mike Oster, the three having collaborated previously at Don't Tell Mama on Murphy's BISTRO Award-winning New York City cabaret debut, acclaimed by Back Stage as "refreshingly original, beautifully structured, and graced by her fantastic voice." Karen Murphy's additional New York cabaret credits include appearances at Rainbow & Stars with Martin Charnin and Steve Ross. Karen Murphy Torch Goddess Songs | 1. | Stranger in Paradise |

Torch Goddess music CDs
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in music, the more they inevitably stay the same -- and 2009 found White (like Montgomery 41, 42, and 43 years earlier) still struggling with a desire to improvise and a desire for mass acceptance (the thing that jazz, for the most part, lost after World War II). Of course, one doesn't necessarily rule out the another; the late saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. knew how to be commercial and adventurous at the same time, but most smooth jazz artists play it way too safe -- which is ...
| | Tord Gustavsen Ground CD (2005)
Torch Goddess songs
$14.05 In the proto-typical Scandinavian ECM style of modern jazz oriented music, pianist Tord Gustavsen follows the path of previous progenitors influenced by Bill Evans, forged by Keith Jarrett, and extended by the likes of Mike Nock. This is certainly late-night, nocturnal music, completely reserved and relaxing, ultra-melodic, calm, peaceful, and non-threatening. Rarely does a tempo move beyond medium, a dynamic merge above mezzo piano, and any mood goes farther than moderately cool. ...

Torch Goddess CD music
$11.15 WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance and for Best Engineered Album, Non Classical. WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year.
WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES, a 1999 Verve release, heralds the return of the cool and groovy Latin-tinged jazz of the '60s. Upon hearing the opening track, a bossa-nova-fied version of Irving Berlin's "Let's Face The Music And Dance," one might think he had accidentally put on a Getz/Gilberto record. In fact, it's hard to avoid comparing Krall's breathy alto to that of Astrud Gilberto-particularly on the more samba-flavored numbers.
But Krall ultimately resists comparisons. Her simultaneously textured and smooth tone, ...

Torch Goddess music CDs
$18.75 Like his contemporary Alexis Korner, Graham Bond is one of the unsung heroes of the early-'60s UK R&B scene. Both led groups that incubated talent which would later mature and eclipse their own groundbreaking efforts. With Bond it was his rhythm section, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, who later became two-thirds of Cream. Both of the organist's albums included here offer an intriguing snapshot of this fertile period in Britain when jazz and blues coexisted quite happily.
Bond was ...

Torch Goddess album
$12.65 Etna Green is a piano rock band originating from Walkerton, Indiana. We began playing locally as a band called This Time Tomorrow in November of 2006. By the following June, we had a solid show and were confident in what we were becoming. By late June This Time Tomorrow was no more—we picked up Matty K, our bass player, and formed Etna Green, the band you know today. With a mix of hard hitting rock guitar, intricate piano, and thoughtful lyrics, Etna Green has, for the past year and a half, continued to grow and evolve our identity by experimenting with a wide range of song styles and poignant themes. We have shared the stage with a variety of bands: Skillet, Jonezetta, Slingshot 57, as well as political speakers: mayors, congressmen, and the occasional presidential candidate. We’ve played stadiums, packed theaters, coffee houses, even birthday and graduation parties. In August 2008, we set out to record our first full length album. We had several setbacks throughout the year, but we were determined to get our music out. Heading to Joplin, we planned a four day recording marathon with Josh Walker of Transient Media Group. We ...
