With the commercial success of their previous album FREEDOM OF CHOICE, the pressure was on Devo to come up with another hit. While NEW TRADITIONALISTS was indeed an exceptional album, it did not replicate the commercial success of its predecessor. The album was the first to be completely produced by the band, and also marks the first time that keyboards and electronic drums would dominate the arrangements on a Devo record (little guitar is heard), resulting in a much more computerized and precise sound. But the songwriting skills of Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale were in full effect, as Devo's trademark humor and wit were on full display.
The opener, "Through Being Cool," catches the band at it's most fun. Other technoid highlights abound, such as the forgotten early-'80s MTV hit "Love Without Anger," the ironic "Beautiful World," the jittery "Going Under" and an anthemic Devo concert staple, "Jerkin' Back N' Forth." Also included are lesser-known (yet still intriguing) tracks, such as "Pity You" and "Soft Things." Another powerful Devo release.
NEW TRADITIONALISTS contains 3 bonus tracks.

New Traditionalists Music Devo New Traditionalists Songs New Traditionalists Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Absolute best Devo album of all! This is by far the most consistent, most listenable Devo album. My all time best. This is the peak of the band, in terms of music, lyrics and overall consistency. After this album the band trailed off into pretty pointless obscurity, deservedly so. Submitted by blankmw (New York, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Awesome...Just pure awe-inspiring 80's Awesomeness! This is another amazing album by DEVO! It's my 2nd favorite album by them, right after Duty Now For The Future. After the success of DEVO's prior album to this one, Freedom Of Choice, featuring the well-known hit Whip It, DEVO went into their secret lab and concocted this synth-driven musical masterpiece! I'm telling you, it doesn't get much better than this! Submitted by Dan Walimaa (Detroit Rock City, Michigan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Devo's Great Achievo The songs on this album (as it was when recorded) are, in this reviewer's humble opinion, some of the best crafted stuff the spuddies ever produced. I think the album didn't take off like the previous releases because of the radical departure from guitars and acoustic drums. The all keyboard approach was radical and ahead of it's time.
A hidden classic

New Traditionalists album
$10.29 REPLICAS contains six bonus tracks, which include outtakes and UK single B- sides.
Issued in 2008, this expanded edition of Gary Numan's groundbreaking 1979 synth-pop album, REPLICAS, presents an entire bonus disc of alternate takes and rarities, essentially revealing an early version of the classic Bowie-gone-robotic record. In addition to punchier renditions of "Me! I Disconnect from You" and "Are `Friends' Electric?" the second CD also includes excellent non-album tracks, most notably the coldly funky "Only a Downstat."
As early as 1977, English pop savant Gary Numan was crafting forward-looking new wave rock that was light years ahead of the punk being offered by his contemporaries. Bravely going against all current musical fashion, Numan blended ...

New Traditionalists album
$9.79 Devo's 1984 release SHOUT showed that the band was losing a bit of focus. Perhaps the misdirection could be attributed to drummer Alan Meyers' unhappiness with Devo's more extensive use of electronic drum machines, and a bad relationship with their record company at the time. Where Devo's earlier albums did contain ...

| | Billy Cobham Flight Time CD (2006) (Import) Live; Germany
New Traditionalists CD music
$11.35 A lesser known Cobham recording that has only been available in the U.S. as an import. Cobham also seems to push guitarists to new heights (i.e. Tommy Bolin, John Abercrombie, John Scofield) and does so here with Barry Finnerty. Their interaction on the tune "Flight Time" is reminiscent of Cobham/Bolin on Spectrum. Yet, despite the intensity and chops of Finnerty and Cobham, this session is ...
