| | Best Of Club Hits, Vol. 3 CD
Compilations of dancefloor hits are very rarely worth sitting down and actually listening to, and this two-disc set looks for all the world like just one more generic collection of mindless thumpathons -- until you look at the back cover, that is, and notice that the featured artists include the Crystal Method, Daft Punk, Dirty Vegas, and Sinéad O'Connor, and that the tracks include one Gordon Lightfoot cover and one dancefloor appropriation of material from the James Joyce novel Ulysses. These discoveries are enough to raise one's expectations significantly, and while it's true that not everything on this album is a brilliant success, there's at least plenty to hold your attention. Disc one turns out to be the best of the two, featuring a charming little slice of vocoder funk in the form of Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," as well as a brilliant gospel-influenced number by Kim English titled "Unspeakable Joy," along with both the Lightfoot cover and the Joyce adaptation. Disc two doesn't quite rise to the same standard, leading off with Robin S.'s disappointingly generic "Show Me Love" and Funky Green Dogs' equally tiresome "Fired Up!," but it recovers near the end thanks to Sinéad O'Connor, whose "Troy (The Phoenix from the Flame)" is one of the collection's highlight tracks. Strongly recommended overall. ~ Rick Anderson

Best Of Club Hits, Vol. 3 music CDs
$9.35 In 1993, when N2DEEP was riding high off of the success of their GOLD album, Back To The Hotel, they stuck a deal and was in the studio recording an album for Capitol Records. That album would never see the light of day until now.Rappers James Trujillo a.k.a. Jay Tee and Tim Lyon a.k.a. T.L. comprise N2DEEP, the Vallejo, California based rap group that debuted in 1992 with the LP, Back To The Hotel. Back To The Hotel would go on to sell an astonishing nine hundred thousand copies earning N2DEEP a GOLD album certification and a PLATINUM single certification and placing them among the ranks of the hip-hop elite. A sold out world tour followed shortly thereafter with other headliners MC Hammer, DJ Quik, and Tag Team. With fame, fortune and critical acclaim, N2DEEP remained successful and did not receive the all too often seen "backlash" against white and Latino rap artists and one-hit wonders (read: Vanilla Ice, Mellow Man Ace). Instead of becoming jokes in the music business and among hip-hop fans, N2DEEP stood for all that was right about hip-hop music and our culture and became respected for their talent, diversity and their determination to succeed. | | DJ Irene Fearless CD (2003)
Best Of Club Hits, Vol. 3 songs
$14.75 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Irene.
DJ Irene's brightest material to date, Fearless is an explosive 28-track set of loaded trance loops and sexy techno beats. The Latin female DJ is a global superstar, and she celebrates her place in the dance community with this electrifying album. While slicing and dicing select cuts from Bob Sinclair, Laurent Konrad, Kosheen, and Blue Diamonds, DJ Irene offers a polished edge to Fearless' ever-changing atmosphere. She gets a little funky for Reign's "Caligula," while shining up worldbeat-inflected beats for Massimo Cominotto's "Gula-Matari." Fearless captures DJ Irene doing what she does best, and that's creating an intoxicating mind-trip on the dancefloor. She's never too trendy, but sharp enough to keep things kitschy. DJ Irene doesn't exclusively stick with one particular dance genre either, and that's what makes ...
| | KMFDM Wwiii CD (2003)
Best Of Club Hits, Vol. 3 album
$11.49 The most frustrating thing about WWIII is that it's so darn inconsistent. Kicking off with the Atari Teenage Riot-sounding and George Bush Jr.-sampling title track, WWIII sounds like it's going to be an inspired affair. The Bush-led Iraqi war has given KMFDM plenty of fuel for their disdain toward America circa 2003, so listeners with differing views will find little to like about the lyrics. On the fierce "Jihad," the band paints the human race as "a dying species" that is "poor sick dumb numb feeding on feces." ...
