Patrick Trewavas (Marillion) and John Mitchell (Arena) release to add to your massive prog-rock collection.
Kino: Pete Trewavas, John Mitchell , John Beck , Chris Maitland .
Picture Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All 6 Reviews Nice - and better than 98% of the crap out there Awesome Beatles-influenced harmonies, intelligently written proggy pop with '80's influences. Don't expect progressive rock - expect well-written pop with a lot of prog influence. Well worth the money. Submitted by panband (Central, VT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wowie, Wow, Wow! First of all, I bought the CD based on the cover art and the name. I'll do that periodically, especially with Inside Out bands. Second of all, it took me about a full week to get into it. After "Loser's Day Parade," it just mellows out and kind of calms down and although it doesn't get better, per say, it most certainly doesn't get any worse. "Loser's Day" is definitely one of the top three best songs I've ever heard, knocking "Rhapsody In Blue" into the four spot. Every single song is put together phenomenally, in a prog-light sort of way, but no less beautiful and simply perfect. If you ever get burned out on death metal and the like, it's a perfect refuge for several months and beyond. Submitted by xailith (Pittsylvania County, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Outstanding! This is a phenomenal release. You'll hear subtle hints of Marillion and Porcupine Tree but with a slightly more "pop" vibe. The songwriting and musicianship are both superb! Chris Maitland's drum skills are mind blowing. There might be a couple tracks that didn't totally grab me but overall this release is a big time winner! Great Job! I heard this album just yesterday, I am still very impressed, listen it all the time. "letting go" is best song ever. Sounds in Marillion style. Great project, very tallented people! Submitted by elisa0310 (St.Petersburg, Russia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Quality is hard to find these days! Well look no further than Kino. This is quality musicianship. 4 talented guys proving that catchy pop songs can still have bags full of class and not simple 3 chord throw away efforts that we seem to be daily dealt up by the industry. Well Done, worth buying! Submitted by refox75 (London, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Katy Perry Teenage Dream CD (2010)
Picture CD music
$13.00 Preceded by her second number one single on Billboard magazine's Hot 100, "California Gurls," Katy Perry's Teenage Dream is filled with dance-pop that made One of the Boys her breakthrough album, but this time there's a decidedly summer spin. Hitmakers like Greg Smith, Dr. Luke, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, and even Weezer's Rivers Cuomo lend a hand for what Perry predicts "will be one of those records that is everybody's favorite guilty pleasure."

| | Disturbed Asylum CD (2010)
Picture music CDs
$15.18 Disturbed's fifth long player opens with an uncharacteristic instrumental, a bleak .And Justice For All-era Metallica-inspired dirge that shoots out the lights and sets the stage for the blistering title cut. That brief detour from the formula will likely draw in some of the band's detractors, but Asylum is hardly a rewiring of the band's sound. What Disturbed has always excelled at is machine-like execution of carefully plotted brutality, and the thirteen tracks that occupy Asylum are textbook examples of the Chicago-based outfit's mastery of commercially viable, yet still cool enough for the fringe, modern metal. The foundation may be set, but between David Draiman's clear and concise, powerhouse vocals, which carry melodies (specifically on the choruses) that ricochet around convention like a pinball, and guitarist Dan Donegan's tasteful, occasionally beautiful guitar work, Disturbed gets to have it both ways. That the band can tackle the holocaust ("Never Again"), global warming ("Another Way to Die"), lycanthropy ("The Animal") and miscarriage ("My Child") with the same amount of intensity that they bring to a cover of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (not so cleverly disguised as "ISHFWILF"), is admirable, but what really sets Disturbed apart from other 21st century ...

Picture album
$14.59 As the title suggests, Hard to Find 45's on CD, Vol. 6: More Sixties Classics collects more of the decade's pop and rock singles, including Lou Christie's "Lightning Strikes," the Nashville Teens' "Tobacco Road," Dale & Grace's "I'm Leaving It Up to You," and the Left Banke's "Walk Away Renee." Some of the collection's more obscure highlights include the stereo single versions of Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata" and Lolita's "Sailor (Your Home Is the Sea)," as well as the original mono single version of Four Jacks and a Jill's "Master Jack." Tracks by Dickey Lee, Chris Montez, the Dixiebelles, Millie Small, and Los Bravos complete this fun collection of off-the-beaten-path hits. ~ Heather Phares

| | Chandeliers Thrush CD (2008) (Import)
Picture album
$21.19 UK enhanced pressing of this 2008 album from the Post-Rockers. Chandeliers are a Chicago-based quartet that represent a phenomenon of unclassifiable modern music. Comprised of multi-instrumentalists from Chicago's blossoming young Avant-Rock scene, they have created a unique, and live, electronic sound. Adopting the collective spirit of Krautrock bands like Can and Faust, the Chandeliers function as a unified whole, with no dominant members. This approach gives the band a more intuitive and unpredictable approach ...
