Starz: Peter Sweval (bass guitar); Michael Lee Smith, Richie Ranno, Joe X. Dube, Brendan Harkin.
Personnel: Michael Lee Smith (vocals); Richie Ranno, Brendan Harkin (guitar); Joe X. Dube (drums).
Liner Note Authors: Jeff Rougvie; Pat Egan.
Recording information: A&R Studios, New York, NY; Record Plant Recording Studios, New York, NY.
Starz' sophomore album, Violation, was quite similar to its predecessor. Jack Douglas was still the band's producer, and Starz continued to favor the type of slick, commercial hard rock that would be called pop-metal in the '80s and early '90s. This 1977 LP didn't establish Starz as major players in the pop-metal field; the New Yorkers did have a small following, although not a huge one. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable record. It doesn't contain any pop-metal masterpieces like Kiss' "Shout It out Loud" or Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," but tracks like "Cherry Baby" and "Rock Six Times" are certainly decent. Most of the time, Starz vocalist Michael Lee Smith sings about the same things that Kiss and Sweet were singing about in the '70s; namely, all-night parties and wild young women in tight dresses. Starz's lyrics, as a rule, were meant to be fun, not profound, and while Violation didn't go down in history as one of pop-metal's all-time classics, it's worth hearing if you're a fan of the style. ~ Alex Henderson

5 stars GREAT REMASTER!
This was one of my favorite albums growing up! I bought the original Metal Blade cd release of this, and this sounds a ton better! The bonus tracks could've been avoided, since they're basically a 3rd generation sounding recording from a cassette. But the sound quality makes up for it. Great liner notes also!

4 stars Great disc
Another fine group of the 70's. It's too bad that they didn't make it further. They had the potential. This selection has the two songs that most people probably have heard, Cherry Baby and Sing It Shout It.

This remastered edition of UFO's 1975 album FORCE IT contains "Let It Roll," "Mother Mary," Shoot Shoot," and more.
If UFO has one addition to rock's pantheon of classic albums, this is it. FORCE IT builds on its predecessor, PHENOMENON, by taking the band further away from their fuzzier, space-rocking early records. Guitarist ...

Secret
Classix Nouveaux Secret CD  (1983) (Import) United Kingdom

Violation
CD $15.85  4 stars
Secret (1983) turned out to be a very appropriate title for most of the world, as this final album was Classix Nouveaux's best kept secret. With top American producer, Alex Sadkin, at the helm Classix veered between the artistic experimental of Peter Gabriel and the synthy pop of the Thompson Twins. Liner Note Author: Sal Solo.
Recording information: Marcus & Rak Studios.
While their first two albums may have cemented their fate as goth new romantics, there was always more to Classix Nouveaux than fashion and their short-lived "flavor of the week" status. In frontman Sal Solo, they had a vocalist with an exceptional range and a knack for writing catchy songs that would oftentimes get buried beneath the quirky arrangements and production that didn't seem to fully comprehend ...

Bent Pussycat is a true Rock and Roll band. With influences like The Who, Sloan, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The Replacements, and other pioneers and masters of melody driven power rock, it's no wonder the band gains devotees no matter where in the world they are performing. The bands live show has an energy, attitude, and musicality that Rock and Roll has been missing for years. Audiences are mesmerized by the musicianship and captured by the hook driven melodic songs. The band is from New York, however many other parts of the world now claim them as their own. The success of their first self-titled CD has been over whelming. With sales world wide thanks to the Internet, the band has been able to reach fans of "True Rock and Roll" from the largest cities of United States to the smallest towns of far off continents. The band will be releasing a special E.P. of live tracks and new songs this June 2002 and then will return to the studio in the fall to begin work on a second full length CD.Bent Pussycat has been gigging regularly for the last 10 months building a following and polishing their live show and performance skills. The band has been working occasionally ...
