| | Alan Jackson Precious Memories CD (2006)
Coming Home CD music
$11.29 On 2006's PRECIOUS MEMORIES, country superstar Alan Jackson ventures into gospel territory, offering up a set of warm and inviting faith-themed songs. These spare tracks feature no percussion and rely almost solely on piano and acoustic guitar, allowing the focus to remain on Jackson's resonant vocals and the songs' devoutly Christian lyrics. Although praising Jesus is clearly the core of this album, the beautifully minimalist renderings of spiritual classics are so soothing and pleasant that the disc's appeal is sure to extend to fans of Jackson's secular music, particularly on "Softly and Tenderly," which is enhanced by gentle organ lines, and "I'll Fly Away," here given a light, jaunty bluegrass feel. The resulting atmosphere ...
| | Sugarland Love On The Inside CD (2008) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak; Deluxe Fan Edition
Coming Home music CDs
$14.89 After Sugarland's first two albums hit it big on the country charts, 2008's LOVE ON THE INSIDE is the duo's breakthrough into the pop mainstream. Featuring the first single, "All I Want To Do," LOVE ON THE INSIDE mixes traditional country, singer-songwriter folk-rock, and commercial pop in a slick but ingratiating package. Other highlights include second single "Already Gone" and the mythologizing "Steve Earle." LOVE ON THE INSIDE was released both as a standard ...
| | Miranda Lambert Revolution CD (2009)
Coming Home songs
$10.39 While Miranda Lambert's first two albums spun tales of kerosene fires, bar fights, and firearmed vengeance, REVOLUTION finds the Texan taking some degree of comfort in her relationship with Blake Shelton, whose influence helps govern the album's mellow moments. Lambert has never played by anyone's rules, be they dictated by Nashville or society in general, ...
| | Alan Jackson Greatest Hits Volume II CD (2003)
Coming Home album
$9.59 Initial pressings of GREATEST HITS VOLUME 2 included a bonus CD.
"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The song was also nominated for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals.
Anyone who earns a second volume of GREATEST HITS has obviously learned a thing or two about staying power and consistency of artistic vision. Such is the case with Alan Jackson, who appeared in the 1990s as mainstream country's alternative to the dominance of King Garth. His sound was still eminently accessible, but the faux-Springsteen drama of Kiss fan Garth's rock manque was eschewed for a more roots-oriented (though hardly traditionalist) sound. Things kick off nicely with the Cajun-flavored smash "Little Bitty," then giving way to the introspective, fiddle-laced country ballad "Everything I Love." Along the way, there's the pleasantly chugging, upbeat "It Must Be Love," the much-publicized post-9/11 song "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," thankfully absent of Toby Keith's contemporaneous jingoistic rancor, and the Jimmy Buffett-assisted party anthem "It's Five O' Clock Somewhere." Add a couple ...
| | Johnny Cash American Recordings CD (1994) Reissue
Coming Home CD music
$6.75 AMERICAN RECORDINGS won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Johnny Cash is back and better than ever. The legendary Man In Black is now recording for a modern rock label, and is being produced by hard-core rap/rock guru Rick Rubin--and the results are startling. Spare and stripped to the bone, AMERICAN RECORDINGS is Johnny Cash at his artistic zenith.
An original acoustic ballad, the opening "Delia's Gone" is a watershed accomplishment. Wryly capturing the art of the death ballad, it presents a thoroughly textured dramatic piece, both horrifying and humorous. The same can be said for Cash's droll reading of Loudon Wainwright's "The Man Who Could Not Cry." An extremely religious man, Johnny includes several songs dealing with themes of redemption, righteousness and spiritual salvation.
Sandwiched between those two songs is a character-rich, eclectic collection of material by writers like Leonard ...

| | June Tabor Cut Above CD (1980) (Import) United Kingdom
Coming Home songs
$14.55 June Tabor's collaborations tend to be a bit more lighthearted than her usually somber solo records--think of the aptly-named SILLY SISTERS records with Maddy Prior--and 1989's A CUT ABOVE is no exception. Guitarist Martin Simpson had recorded with Tabor before, appearing on her ABYSSINIANS and AQABA albums, but he takes a more active compositional and musical role here, co-writing many of the songs with Tabor. Simpson's guitar is the key musical element, with the delicate backing of Ric Saunders' violin, Dave Bristow's keyboards and Jon Davies's bass providing occasional and subtle support. As always, however, Tabor's brilliant, bell-toned voice is the immediate and eternal focal point of these 10 songs. Highlights include the sprightly opener "Admiral Benbow" and the chilling coal-mining ballad "Number Two Top Seam," which Tabor performs unaccompanied. ...
