| Great, deeply moving music Claudio Abbado must be, at this moment, the most musically expressive conductor I have known. He participates with his players as if they were a physical extension of each other. He leads and follows, he breathes music and loves it. The fact that he has fought a potentially terminal ilness must have given him the freedom to go directly to the essence of what he conducts. He is somehow liberated and stronger because of it. Truly magnificent! I had thought to be over-saturated with the Brahms Violin Concerto, and wanting a longer pause before hearing it again, and still I was bowled over by the beauty of Mr. Shahan's playing. I found myself involuntarily bursting into tears for the stunning beauty of the his playing, and the perfectly guaged weight and selflessnes of his approach. This is a CD that should be in the home of everyone who needs great music in their lives. By steve (Deal, Kent, England) |
