A family moves into a new home that has a horrifying past. Anna Paquin stars in this creepy little box office hit! Talented Spanish filmmaker Jaume Balaguero's film DARKNESS is a terrifying tale in which an ordinary American family moves to a large, creaky Victorian home in the Spanish countryside that, unbeknownst to them, was the scene of some awful experiments on the night of a total eclipse 40 years before. Teenage daughter Regina (Anna Paquin) decides to investigate after unexplained bruises show up on her younger brother (Stephen Enquist), and her father (Iain Glen) displays oddly enraged and erratic behavior. Although her mother (Lena Olin) and her grandfather (Giancarlo Giannini) refuse to believe her, Regina is convinced that something within their new home is the cause of the trouble. As another eclipse looms, Regina enlists the help of her new boyfriend (Fele Martinez) and uncovers truths that could literally destroy her family.
Balaguero mixes tried and true cinematic scare devices with his own brand of macabre originality to bring a well-paced, ominous atmosphere to the supernatural ghost story genre. He drains the film of colorful hues and bright light, and effectively uses sound to paralyze and terrorize his viewers. Having thoroughly scared the daylights out of European audiences, DARKNESS is sure to do the same stateside. Darkness Movie Review Average Rating: (1 out of 5 stars) Total crap from start to finish. If the director of this movie actually thinks that he has made a scary spine chiller then he must be on drugs.
Darkness has to be the worst horror movie ever to be made or released.

It's better than the rest of the crap out there. I know most people didn't like this movie, but it breaks away from the stereotypes that horror movies are cought up in now a days. It's a good change from just putting insane amounts of gore and calling it a great horror movie. it isn't the greatest but its definitely worth a buy. A PAYOFF MOVIE I give it 3 stars and that's being genrous.
One of the "twists" I saw a mile away, other parts made no sense.
I gave it 3 stars, because it was a little scary (but I was lucky I watched on a quiet, cold rainy night). I set the mood of the movie.
Also Anna Paquin is HOT!!!! Submitted by LARRY McGLADE (MANHATTAN, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Darkness film
$7.75 First out of the gate with a new band after the English Beat's acrimonious fracture in June 1983, General Public was the first post-punk supergroup, gathering the Beat's Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, the Specials' Horace Panter, and other veterans of the U.K. ska revival. (Mick Jones, freshly booted from the Clash, was originally announced as General Public's lead guitarist; although he left the group very early on to start up Big Audio Dynamite and doesn't appear in the album photos, his guitar does appear on nearly all of the album's ten tracks.) Frankly, All the Rage could quite easily have been the fourth English Beat album, as it's a clear continuation from 1982's Special Beat Service. The ska sounds are largely absent, replaced by a mixture of catchy Brit-pop -- someone in the group is clearly a fan of both the Beatles and Elvis Costello & the Attractions -- and occasional reggae influences. The closing track, "General Public," is a sneering putdown of British politics and the attendant old boys network, the most political song the boys had written since the days of "Stand Down Margaret" and one of their most effective reggae tunes ever, with echoes of the threatening throb of '70s classics like Culture's Two Sevens Clash. However, more of the album is along the line of the hit singles "Tenderness" (the biggest U.S. chart hit of any English Beat-related band until Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy" five years later and one of Wakeling's best lost-love songs) and "Never ...

Darkness review
$10.35 The Claudias, Gulfstream, The Rosie Singers, Wednesday (background vocals).
Named after Godard's 1959 science-fiction masterpiece and heavily influenced by '80s synth bands like Depeche Mode, Alphaville was the Munich-based trio of Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd and Frank Mertens. Their 1984 debut, FORVER YOUNG, features somber but catchy synth-pop not unlike late Ultravox. Three ...
| | Kylie Minogue Kylie CD (1988)
Darkness DVD
$12.79 KYLIE is a collection of early Kylie Minogue, bringing together some of the first and best of the Australian popsters extremely successful hits. "I Shoudl Be So Lucky," "It's No Secret," and "Look My Way."
While the production values on Kylie's debut are dated at best and the tunes are nothing but standard late-'80s Stock-Aitken-Waterman bubblegum, there are some rather endearing qualities to it. Firstly, she shows a lot more personality than the other Stock, et al. frontperson, Rick Astley. Secondly, her cuteness makes these rather vapid tracks bearable. Her cover of "The Loco-Motion" made only small waves in the U.S., but this was the album that launched her career as both pop star and icon in Europe. ~ Chris True
The album that started it ...

$10.29 Directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly continue their string of hilarious oddball comedies with SHALLOW HAL. Hal (Jack Black of HIGH FIDELITY) is a "regular guy" who has no luck with women because he only wants to be with women who look like supermodels. Then self-help guru Tony Robbins hypnotizes Hal so that he can see a woman's inner beauty. When Hal meets Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), a Peace Corps volunteer who is smart and funny, he thinks his dreams have come true. Others, like Hal's slimy friend Mauricio (Jason Alexander), see Rosie for what she is, a 300-pound woman, but Hal can only see the beauty on the inside, so to him she looks like Gwyneth Paltrow.
