For their sixth recording, Urban Knights utilizes a core quintet comprised of keyboardist Kevin Randolph, veteran guitarist Bobby Broom, Nick Bisesi on tenor and soprano, electric bassist Maurice Fitzgerald and drummer Quinjuan Anderson. Although Urban Knights has never really had its own distinctive sound, it creates pleasing music that is danceable, funky, soulful and safe. Along with the group originals, Urban Knights romps happily on Stanley Clarke's "School Days" and Ramsey Lewis' "Close Your Eyes And Remember." The latter has a guest appearance by one of the group's original members, pianist Ramsey Lewis. The music overall has a light (some one would say lightweight) feel and should appeal to a large audience. Just do not expect originality, risks or any chances to be taken, for Urban Knights sticks closely to their chosen format/formula. ~ Scott Yanow

$14.79 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with ...

$16.45 Music—like color—seasons the everyday life, infuses it with depth and texture. We find ourselves drawn to music because it awakens that world within, gets us tapping our feet and banging the steering wheel. Music moves the soul, stirs the soul, thrills the soul, and challenges the soul. It comes in all shapes and sizes from every corner of the globe…and music makers carry a love for that panoramic view of life nestled inside of them. Sarah Scharbrough is this kind of musician, this kind of gal.Throw in a little pop, a little jazz and blues, a little country, and a little gospel, and you begin to describe the eclectic mix that makes up Sarah’s piano-driven and soulful sound. She, accompanied by her husband/drummer Jeff McLaughlin and brother/guitarist Steve Scharbrough, has logged thousands of miles nationwide on a journey of songwriting and performing. The journey started long ago when Sarah began singing and playing in her young childhood. As the daughter of two musicians, spending evenings on the piano playing and singing was a common highlight of family time. ...
