Spitalfield: Mark Rose (vocals, guitar); Dan Lowder (guitar); T. J. Minich (bass guitar); J. D. Romero (drums). The question with bands like Spitalfield is always the same: can they grow and mature without losing the edginess and passion that initially attracted their fan base? So far, the answer seems to be yes. Spitalfield's second album for the Victory label does a nice job of balancing enhanced sonics (courtesy of alt rock star producer Ed Rose) and sometimes intricate vocal harmonies with solid, gutsy guitar and straightforward songwriting. Nothing here will offend or disappoint those who fell in love with Remember Right Now, and those for whom this album constitutes an introduction to Spitalfield will almost certainly want to go back and fill in their collections with the group's earlier releases. If Stop Doing Bad Things fails to yield any truly superlative high points, well, maybe that's just another way of saying that Spitalfield is one consistent band. Actually, "Tampa Bum Blues" does pack a distinctive wallop, and "Building a Better City by Design" sort of offers an extra-heavy dose of good fist-pumping fun as well. But none of the other tracks falls far behind those two in quality. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson

Stop Doing Bad Things
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- ...

Stop Doing Bad Things
$8.49 Includes bonus track "Fix Me".
Rise Against: Tim (vocals, guitar); Joe (bass instrument, background vocals); Chris, Brandon. Rise Against's somewhat sudden major label-ness has slightly diluted their direct assault on melodic hardcore, but the adjustment should only invite more sugar punkers to the Chicago combo's bittersweet party. Rise Against has moved up in the sonic nicety department -- loud rock vet GGGarth produces, and the Andy Wallace mix is a flawless cross section of thick, grit, and slick. But Siren Song ...

Stop Doing Bad Things
$8.49 Personnel: Nathan Calvin (vocals). Audio Mixer: Terry Date. Recording information: Studio Litho, Seattle, WA. Editor: Ingrid Erickson. Arranger: Chris DeGarmo. It makes sense that Terry Date produced Catch Without Arms, Dredg's second record for Interscope. The producer is a veteran of Deftones albums, and it's that band's rich but still rocking palette that's the intent here. And they succeed. Like past Dredg ...

Stop Doing Bad Things
$12.95 The year 2000 not only ushered in the new Millennium. It was also the year Hummersqueal˚ was born. Hummersqueal˚ got together to play their music of choice (ROCK) just because they felt like it. Hummersqueal˚ are: Salvatore Vitale, (guitar) Alfonso Contreras, (drums/vocal) Normand Olea (bass) and Christian Guijosa (guitar/vocals) all natives of Mexico City whose collective mission is simple: to play good/intelligent rock-and-roll about life experiences in the big city, growing up, and love for their generation regardless of language. Inspired by their favorite bands (Pixies, Helmet, Jimmy Eat World among others). The band figured if those guys could do it they sure as hell could too. It’s hard to believe that the band has more than half a decade under its belt since this foursome’s age range is in the barely twenties. To say Hummersqueal˚’s track record is impressive is an understatement. These boys have shared the stage in Mexico with the likes of Audioslave, Misfits Ely Guerra, Amigos Invisibles, Jumbo, Joselo just to name a few. Not to mention Hummersqueal˚ enjoy consistent radio play in the leading Pop/Rock radio station in Mexico City ‘Reactor’, in addition to selling 5,000 units in Mexico alone, which is no easy feat.Self-produced, the album “Di:Helo†was recorded in Mexico and mastered by Don Tyler of Nirvana, Beck, Devo, Jimmy Eat World, Julieta Venegas, Jumbo, fame at Precision Mastering in Beverly Hills, California. Released by SourPop Records. “Di: Helo†has a sticky quality to it, the more you listen to it the more it grows on you. The overall feel of this production is a gritty smoothness. A rough ride with silky melancholic undertones courtesy of enigmatic lyrics. In a nutshell Hummersqueal˚ rocks cuz they can and that’s all there is to it.Highlights:Performing at internationally renowned ˜Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City at Foro Sol on May 13, 2006.Performed this summer in the West Coast during the month of June: 13@ JC Fandango in Anaheim, 14th Cane’s in San Diego and 15th @ The Knitting Factory in Hollywood.Featured on AOL Latino’s ‘Zona Estreno’.Myspace.com/HummersquealTrivia: The band took their unusual name ...
