| | Wow #1S CD
One must give credence to the WOW series' claim that it has compiled "31 of the greatest Christian music hits ever," as it does on this collection of Number One hits, as WOW is the clear leader in contemporary Christian music (CCM) collections. True to this statement, the biggest hits by spiritually minded performers are here, including quite a few songs that have crossed over into the upper reaches of the secular pop charts.
Like the NOW template it is patterned after, this WOW installment mixes in all styles of music, from the country beckonings of MercyMe to the rap-rock of DC Talk to the post-grunge of Third Day and the soulful gospel of Kirk Franklin's God Property. The songs run the gamut from unabashedly reverential songs like Rich Mullins's "Awesome God" to the less-obvious worship of Jars of Clay's surprise modern-rock hit "Flood," and the entirely secular-yet-innocent love song "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer. Over the course of its two discs, this WOW compilation presents an exemplary survey of the Christian pop-music landscape. Wow #1S Review

| | Laura Branigan Touch CD (1987)
Wow #1S CD music
$9.69 Laura Branigan's fifth album, Touch, showed signs of maturity as she made a bid (that was not quite successful) for adult contemporary crossover -- a smart chance to take considering the longevity many A/C acts have. Her big, boomy voice is perfect for some of the moody ballads on this collection, such as "Over Love," "Meaning of the Word," and "Spirit of Love," but there are so many of those successfully evocative cuts that the dance songs don't fit as seamlessly as they should. That's not to say the upbeat tracks are not in good shape: The lead single, "Shattered Glass" (produced by Stock, Aitken, Waterman, who produced successful Bananarama and Kylie Minogue singles in the same period), and "Angels Calling" stand out; you can hardly hold back from caroling along. Synthesizer-heavy throughout, on both the slow and fast songs, the strings on the yearning "Cry Wolf" near the ...
| | Jaci Velasquez Love Out Loud CD (2008)
Wow #1S music CDs
$12.39 It was a pleasing experiment that earned her some of the best reviews of her career, but Beauty Has Grace, Jaci Velasquez's adventuresome ninth album, was the one the masses least cared about: the album sold poorly and it garnered no significant radio hits -- a first for the Christian singer. The album marked the end of Velasquez's Word Records era and sparked a period of soul-searching for the songstress: she weathered a divorce and moved to London in hopes the change of scenery would do her good. Back in Nashville, remarried, and pregnant with her first child, Velasquez went back into the studio to record Love Out Loud, her tenth album and first as an indie. The disc is a return of sorts: she's back to working with former dc Talk producer Mark Heimermann, the guy who spearheaded her first three chart-topping albums. Most importantly, Velasquez is back from her excursion in the realm of Brit-pop, back to what she does best, namely, sprightly Christian pop ...
| | Salvador Aware CD (2008)
Wow #1S songs
$12.19 As one of the hardest-working bands in Christian music, Salvador deserve a break. Since their 2000 debut, the Latin pop/rock powerhouse has been toiling tirelessly across the country, playing hundreds of dates a year and wowing audiences and critics alike with its unique mix of worshipful lyrics and a sonic melting pot that would make modern-day Santana proud. Despite the recognition and a couple of radio hits, a breakthrough album still eludes them. Aware, Salvador's sixth attempt at one, sees the Latin brothers scaling things back a bit -- it's easily their most low-key effort yet. It's a more demure approach, perhaps reflective of frontman Nic Gonzales' new lot in life -- his marriage to Christian pop singer Jaci Velasquez and her pregnancy with the couple's first child while the album was being recorded. With his bachelorhood behind him, it's almost as if Gonzales now sounds older and wiser, ...

Wow #1S music CDs
$14.45 GONE TO EARTH is a 1977 album by the British prog-rock group Barclay James Harvest.
Barclay James Harvest had streamlined their sound considerably after leaving the Harvest label, culminating (so many felt) in the mellifluous music of Gone to Earth. Their pretensions to progressive rock all but abandoned, BJH here invites comparison to contemporaries like Supertramp, REO Speedwagon, and Fleetwood Mac (some of whom were similarly tagged ...
