"Since You've Asked" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards For Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals.
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
What is it about Jane Monheit that's sufficiently captured public attention to make her a star of the jazz world? Is it her photogenic mug and cheesecake album art, her close-enough-to-Krall style? Or is there just something about the way she tackles well-worn standards ("Some Other Time," "Cheek to Cheek"), more contemporary material ("Love Has No Pride," Judy Collins's "Since You've Asked"), and Brazilian tunes (by the likes of Ivan Lins, who makes a guest appearance on his own "Once I Walked in the Sun," and Vinicius De Moraes) with the same measured grace. Of course, having top-flight jazz musicians like saxman Joel Frahm, bass legend Ron Carter, and trumpet great Tom Harrell on board doesn't hurt matters, and Monheit's own ability to appeal to fans of pop and (presumably) Broadway with her cannily syncretic style seals the deal.
On this Dualdisc, Jane's songs play up her appeal as a pop vocalist rather than her conservative jazz vocal skills heard on previous albums. Accompanying Monheit are strings arranged by Alan Broadbent, bassist Ron Carter, trumpeter Tom Harrell, drummer Kenny Washington, and tenor sax by Joal Frahm. The DVD side features the entire album in 5.1 surround sound, an artist bio, photo gallery, portable music files & weblinks.
Recorded between March 19 & June 14, 2002.
Personnel: Jane Monheit (vocals); Ivan Lins (vocals, piano); Alan Broadbent, Vince Mendoza (arranger, conductor); Joel Frahm (tenor saxophone); Tom Harrell (trumpet); Michael Kanan, Kenny Ascher (piano); Rene Toledo (nylon string guitar); Joe Martin, Ron Carter (bass); Rick Montalbano, Kenny Washington (drums); Don Alias (percussion).

| | Blindsighted Injection CD (2004)
In The Sun music CDs
$5.99 Blindsighted is a hard rocking high octane band, a new entry into the world of punk, with a first rate cred pedigree to smooth its arrival. With straight forward hard driving rhythms, passionate thundering guitars, and exceptionally well-crafted songs, Blindsighted is poised to conquer national radio and retail with its debut album Injection. The concept of front man Joey Vice, Blindsighted features an all-star punk line-up that puts it on par with any band working today. Anchored by drummer Jordan Burns and bassist Chris Akins (the rhythmic backbone of one of Fat Wreck Chords most currently successful artists, Strung Out), and further fleshed out by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes lead singer Spike Slawson, the back stage duo of translates their winning instrumental formula into a solid backing core for Blindsighted. Injection was produced, engineered, and mixed by Ryan Greene, nationally recognized for his role in helping create some of the biggest and ...
| | Guitar Supreme: Giant Steps In Fusion Guitar CD (2004)
In The Sun songs
$14.29 Given the label and roster here, one should have a good idea of what's in store for Guitar Supreme: Giant Steps in Fusion Guitar: fusion guitar giants performing well played, immaculately produced songs written or popularized by John Coltrane. And that's what it delivers, but while some of the performances are impressive, the overall sound seems to place more emphasis on technique and production than the spiritual passion embodied by Coltrane. Each player is backed by electric bass, drums, Hammond organ and rhythm guitar, giving each song an almost-funky smooth jazz vibe. This works fairly well on songs like "Mr. Syms" and "Village Blues," but it's pretty inappropriate for "Resolution" (part of the "Love Supreme Suite"), where the solemn spirituality of the original is completely undermined by the upbeat backing. On most of the other songs, once the head of the tune is stated, they all begin to sound the same since every tune is given exactly the same treatment. "Afro Blue" is one of the album highlights, with Jeff Richman's distorted tone giving a bit of edge to the sound, Mike Stern does a ...
| | Georgia Anne Muldrow Worthnothings CD (2004) Extended Play
In The Sun album
$7.99 Georgia Anne Muldrow is a producer, songwriter, and singer who is in the cabal of off-center R&B space cadets that includes Sa-Ra and Platinum Pied Pipers. Originally self-released in 2004, this 20-minute EP was picked up for wider release by Stones Throw, where Muldrow is certainly at home. Her beats are gelatinous and dizzy, often baring her inspirations -- Madlib, Jay Dee, Platinum Pied Pipers' Waajeed -- without mimicking them. She sings about things like mortality, self-improvement, and the simple bliss of a kiss ...
| | Pat Metheny We Live Here CD (1994) Remastered
In The Sun CD music
$13.69 Principally recorded at The Hit Factory, New York, New York in 1994.
WE LIVE HERE won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.
The Pat Metheny Group have always been on the move. Previous album titles such as THE ROAD TO YOU, OFFRAMP and LETTER FROM HOME indicate a proclivity for motion, and on their latest production, WE LIVE HERE, they show that their home is a constant state of travel. Throughout these nine songs they challenge the listener to not go with them.
The Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays composition team works with hooky structures which provide foundations for thoughtful, and, at times, passionate improvisations. The rousing riff behind "Stranger In Town" serves as a jumping-off point for one of Pat's many stunning solos. ...
