| | Peter Green Live At The BBC CD Peter Green Discography of CDs
Recorded live between 1967 and 1971. Includes liner notes by Mick Fleetwood and Stephen Davis.
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Before they came to virtually define melodic Southern California rock in the late 1970s, Fleetwood Mac was a UK-based '60s blues-rock band, their style fueled by the electric American blues of Elmore James and Muddy Waters. Back then, the Mac's style was defined by the scorching guitar and impassioned vocals of Peter Green and the keening slide guitar of Jeremy Spencer. This three-CD set finds the band cutting loose on some of their favorite blues and early rock & roll songs, recorded live at the BBC studios between 1967 and 1971.
This 2-disc Dualdisc, a substantial supplement to the band's recorded legacy with Peter Green, features 36 songs broadcast between 1967 and 1971. The CD side features the complete album. The DVD side on each disc includes Mick Fleetwood introduction, BBC liner notes, artists photos, portable music files, and weblinks.
Fleetwood Mac: Peter Green (vocals, guitar); Jeremy Spencer (vocals, slide guitar, guitar); Danny Kirwan (vocals, guitar); John McVie (bass); Mick Fleetwood (drums).
Additional personnel: Nick Pickett, Christine Perfect, Eddie Boyd.Rolling Stone (12/26/96, p.189) - "...captures over two discs the full range of this astonishing quintet: letter-perfect Elmore James shuffles, heartfelt Buddy Holly Tributes and epic hard-rock originals....Green was the most melodic and understated of guitar heroes..." Dirty Linen (6-7/96, p.63) - "...the only real genius of the British blues movement, a man who could write, sing, and play the blues as if his life depended on it..." Musician (8/96, p.92) - "...this two-CD collection of radio performances makes a convincing case for the Mac as...one of the greatest bands of all time, period. Between Green's breathtaking command of soul, Kirwan's way with an old-timey melody, and Spencer's apparent ability to imitate anyone...this was one versatile bunch..." NME (Magazine) (10/28/95, p.56) - 8 (out of 10) - "...at the peak of the Jeremy Spencer/Peter Green-led line-up, they were probably the crown of the British blues boom, arguably even better than Cream....there's still a grounding in Chicago blues styles and some almost ethereal guitar licks from Green..." | | Phillip Johnston Music For Films CD (1998)
Live At The BBC album
$13.39 Includes the scores for the films GELD, MONEY MAN, UMBRELLAS and THE MUSIC OF CHANCE.
A series of short pieces set a variety of moods, from mournful introspection to waltzy vibraphone pop to upbeat, funk sassiness to the kind of trance craziness that only psychotic banjos can bring. On Music for Films, Philip Johnston shows off his amazing breadth and depth, with compositions for four films: Geld directed by Doris Dörrie; Money Man and Music of Chance both directed by Philip Haas; and Umbrellas directed by Henry Corra, Grahame, Weinbren, and Albert Maysles. The tracks are not entirely in order by film (for example, the songs from Geld are tracks 13-18 and 27-31), which makes it difficult at times to get an overall feel for the music of a particular film. The music within each film, however, is ...

Live At The BBC album
$7.95 "Every once in a great while you’ll hear a new band that, in some way or another, reaffirms your love of music, your adoration for history and your admiration for artists who find splendor in the simplest of notes, phrases or progressions. Brighton, MA does just that." -Tom Lynch (New City Chicago, 6/7/07)Brighton, MA is a band from Chicago, IL which could, at first glance, seem confusing. The band's name is a reference to the town singer/songwriter Matthew Kerstein was born in, and is as much a general statement about nostalgia and "going home again" as it is an actual location. The band comprises five members: Kerstein, guitarist Jim Tuerk, guitarist Devon Bryant, bassist Matt Priest and drummer Sam Koentopp. Their self-titled debut record finds these strong musical personalities blending with easy camaraderie to paint backdrops for Kerstein's mature songs of warning and optimism. The band was effectively formed when Kerstein made the decision to leave up-and-coming Chicago group The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir whose debut record was selected as one of the Best Local Releases of 2003 by Jim DeRogatis (Chicago Sun-Times) and Greg Kot (Chicago Tribune). The other members of Brighton, MA had also been involved in varying degrees with that band, so the reorganization was natural. Thanks to some of SYGC's successes—headlining shows at Chicago's Metro, Empty Bottle, Double Door, and Schubas, and opening sold out or near-capacity shows for bands like The Arcade Fire, Spoon, Of Montreal, Feist, The Walkmen, Violent Femmes, The Fiery Furnaces, Okkervil River and The Olivia Tremor Control—the initial momentum for Brighton, MA was established, and the band wasted no time preparing to record its eponymous debut. The record was made over the course of 2006, recorded mostly at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago. The songs were rehearsed, pushed and pulled over the course of the recording process; some were re-tracked to fall in line with the newer live versions, while others began to dictate the sound of their live counterparts. By the time the record came to be mixed at Chicago's Clava/4 Deuces, a bulk of tunes for the band's second record were written and ready to rehearse. Brighton, MA believes that a band's success is measured by the quality of their songs and recorded output. In a sense, their ethic is more of a throwback to the late 60's and early 70's groups from which they draw much of their inspiration. The band has played many shows over the course of their first year, sharing the stage with the likes of Tapes 'n Tapes, Man Man, Tilly & The Wall, The Essex Green, Isobel Campbell, The M's, and Maritime, and gaining new fans in New York, DC, Madison, Indianapolis, Iowa City and elsewhere. Their first ...
