The rise of Shaka Zulu during the bloody civil wars in Africa. Starring David Hasselhoff, this film is based on a true story. Special features include a director's commentary. Conceived as a sequel to the popular miniseries, SHAKA ZULU: THE LAST GREAT WARRIOR (aka SHAKA ZULU: THE CITADEL) was written and directed by Joshua Sinclair, who also penned the original. Prentice Mungo (David Hasselhoff) is a slave-trader who discovers that his ship is carrying a stowaway, Katherine (Karen Allen). Katherine is seeking passage to Africa to see her father, a British officer stationed there. But when they arrive, Mungo discovers Shaka, king of the Zulu tribe, among the slaves he is going to be transporting. Using his cleverness and leadership abilities, Zulu incites the slaves to revolt, and takes Katherine captive as he flees into the African countryside. SHAKA ZULU: THE LAST GREAT WARRIOR is an imaginative alternate take on British colonial history. intersting to watch but its the same ole' same ole' Henry Cidel great job. Story line great, but what i dont like is that shaka did not slaughter them white people in the movie you better believe he would of in real life. White directors need to stay away from directing movies like this with out the advise of a all black council or the true historical accounts. Why is it that White directors always show how cruel they are and were to blacks and show us being so forgiving. That is an inaccurate depiction we arent that forgiving nobodies that forgiving. This movie did not give a good account of the level of pain and torment that something like the capture and enslavement of a people would truely have on a people. David hasselfoff whipping one of his own please that would of never happen all to try to hold to his good guy-actor reputation please he is an actor let him act with out politics please! I wish some one would step out on a limB with a movie of this gendre and give accurate depictions for a change. Do a Quintine Taruntino on us. ATTENTION ALL MOVIE DIRECTORS AND SCREEN PLAY WRITERS!!! Americans are tired of seeing movies were the star of the movie cannot die! The nicest person on the bad peoples side cannot receive devine justice and be punished or die! We are tired of seeing all blacks that are being oppressed in a movie be dogooders and not want there oppressers prosecutied or dead execpt for one who becomes the marter!! We are tired of all blacks who are not being oppressed in a movie beig ghetto low lives, or middle class to rich with low to no morals!! Hello, the guy dont always have to get the girl i mean this is Shaka Zulu what was the purpose of david hasselhoff getting the girl. The good guys always win is play out. americans dont want to see a formula when we are watching a movie but a flow. A flow of life that is more realistically reflecting what we experiance in real life. The ups and downs of life the wrath, justice, retribution, dont realistically filter through some formula it takes on many shapes and forms that are quite unpredictable.
Thats what we want to see. Also when you are making a documentary like this one we want to see the Truth! but I suggest any one intersted to buy the movie i garuntee that it will become a collectors item. Submitted by ticolaspruill (Baltimore MD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This movie sucked I rented this from blockbuster. I hoped to see a detailed movie about Shaka Zulu. Instead you have a more European based and told story. The movie rarely even focuses on this legendary African hero. Submitted by Blackjohn (Heartofdajungle,NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Shaka Zulu - The Last Great Warrior DVD
$6.99 For his third feature film, British director Sam Mendes (AMERICAN BEAUTY) turns to the pages of Anthony Swofford's 2003 book on his experiences in the first Gulf War, and enlists William Broyles Jr.--a former Lieutenant who fought in Vietnam--to convert it into a screenplay. Mendes's film strays into FULL METAL JACKET territory as it opens, with young recruit Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) undertaking some rigorous basic training under the steely, watchful eye of Staff Sgt. Sykes (Jamie Foxx). Impressed, Sykes invites Swofford to join his team, and partners him with Troy (Peter Sarsgaard), ultimately taking them to Saudi Arabia to fight in the first Gulf War. But once they arrive in the punishing heat of the desert, the long wait for battle sends many of the Marines dangerously close to the brink of insanity.
Drawing on the experience of acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) to help viewers get a close-up taste of the Marines' punishing life in the desert, Mendes's film enters into deeply unsettling territory, the likes of which many cinemagoers won't have experienced since Martin Sheen lost his tenuous ...
