 | Put your seatbelts on! The departure of Bobby Kimball was not the disaster we would have feared as Fergie acquits himself well. The only complaint would be the loss of David Hungate who's heavier bass arrangements are missed. The band power ahead however, firing on all cylinders.'Carmen',is a fast and furious rock workout with a Spanish twist.'Lion', is essentially a poppier and more orchestral reworking of, 'Africa'. 'Angel don't cry', updates the bands sound to that of stadium friendly 80's rock. (Perhaps the first and only time that ToTo paid attention to the then current musical trends). 'How does it feel', sees Lukather start to perfect the power ballad, developing a more fluid and thick guitar sound while soaring away unhindered. 'Endless' and 'Isolation' underscore the band's continued commitment to mining the rich vein of keyboard driven rock dominating the eras charts. The experiment was not a success however, which is unfortunate as there's lots on offer here. A veritable smorgasboard of sounds, synths and layers topped off with gorgeous melodies which kept them at the forefront of the musical vanguard. As an aside, fans of Jeff Porcaro will appreciate the evolution of his drumming style, especially on the fade out to' Mr friendly'. | essential for TOTO fans . "isolation" usci' dopo l'incredibile "TOTO IV" e spiazzo' non poco i vecchi fans .Questa edizione rimasterizzata rende giustizia alla bella e potente voce di Fergie Frederiksen (Le Roux,Trillion),canzoni come "endless" e "isolation" senza la sua grinta non sarebbero state le stesse.Da avere. | Dial In On This TOTO!! It is truly a shame that this release never got the airplay it deserves. This is one of the BEST releases that they have ever released. For me, the songs on this CD never have grown old or boring!! From "Carmen" all the way through to "Holyanna", every song can't help but get your body a-movin'! I was fortunate enough to see them do this album live on tour!! It was an absolutely rockin' concert; the new lead singer was doing cartwheels and somersaults on stage WHILE HE WAS STILL SINGING!!!!! This is a must-have for any TOTO fan. By michel.pare (Grants Pass, OR USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Tremendous Album I'm a big fan of Toto & own all of their albums but if I was stranded on a desert island & could choose just one to keep, this would be the one. Isolation, which is Toto's 5th album, was much harder rocking than it's Grammy winning predecessor - Toto 4. It also didn't win any Grammy's or sell near as many copies as Toto 4 but that wasn't becuz it was inferior album. It was becuz the record company didn't promote it properly & for whatever reason, didn't release hardly any of it's great songs as singles. Where Toto 4 had mostly melodic mid-tempo pop/rock grooves & slow ballads, Isolation had mostly faster tempo songs & was much harder rocking. It was also the first album without longtime singer - Bobby Kimball. The new singer - Fergie Frederickson sounded much different than Bobby but had a powerful voice that meshed really well with the bands new sound. David Paich & Steve Lukather do lead vocals on the slower tunes as well. As far as the album goes, it has the same great production & musicianship as Toto 4 & their later albums & there's not one weak song on the entire album. Many of these songs, if given the chance, probably would've been hit singles. My favorite tracks are "Carmen", "Lion", "Endless", "Mr. Friendly" & "Holyanna". If you're a Toto fan & don't own this album yet, you're really missing out on some true rock gems. By goodguy126 (Holland, MI, USA) This review is for a different format. |
