| | Louis Xiv Best Little Secrets Are Kept CD Louis Xiv Discography of CDs
Boasting the fermented wit of producer/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Jason Hill and the sneering vocals of Brian Karscig, this California outfit excels at dirty, punky glam, served with no chaser. "Louis XIV" and "Finding Out True Love Is Blind" pay homage to everyone that ever sweated until their makeup ran down their face, then fell off the stage in 12-inch platform boots (Marc Bolan & T. Rex, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, et al). Most of Louis XIV's saucy debut EP, ILLEGAL TENDER, gets sewn into this long-player's silver-lame-stretched girth, as do some low-key numbers like "Ball of Twine" and "All the Little Pieces." Without a doubt, this is unfettered rock & roll perversion at its most entertaining--profane, energetic, and self-aware. THE BEST LITTLE SECRETS ARE KEPT would have been the best party record of the mid-'70s, but it showed up up three decades late, dressed to the nines, with an album cover so blatantly sexually that it's almost quaint.
Louis XIV: Jason Hill, Brian Karscig (vocals, guitar, piano, bass guitar); Jimmy Armbrust III (bass guitar); Mark Maigaard (drums).
Additional personnel: Lindsey Troy (vocals); Robert Arthur Dodds (guitar); Louis Caverly (violin); Michelle Negele (viola); Andrew Shulman (cello); Frank Palumbo (trumpet).Rolling Stone (p.68) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[The album] pairs the thrilling hedonism of early-Seventies T.Rex and David Bowie with caroonishly sexed-up vocals that make winking fun of glitter rock's excesses." Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[They] boast a certain louche wit..." Best Little Secrets Are Kept album
$8.49 Emerging in an era rife with New Wave rip-off artists, the Kaiser Chiefs ran the risk of their sharp suits, angular haircuts, and early-1980s influences being taken the wrong way. While many of their peers shamelessly aped the most obvious aspects of the Cure, New Order, et al, Kaiser Chiefs (the name comes from a South African soccer team) much more subtly incorporated ...
| | Eels Blinking Lights And Other Revelations CDs (2005) Digipak
Best Little Secrets Are Kept CD music
$12.19 Since 1996's BEAUTIFUL FREAK, Mark Oliver Everett used his band, Eels, as a mouthpiece for his inspirationally morose worldview. Recorded over a period of seven years in Everett's basement, the 33 tracks of 2005's BLINKING LIGHTS AND OTHER REVELATIONS see the singer/songwriter backing off from the rockier sounds of 2003's SHOOTENANNY! to meditate on the significance of family, aging, and death. The results are often breathtaking, a warm blanket of a song cycle whose tracks are the more mature, resolute descendents of the tunes on ...

Best Little Secrets Are Kept music CDs
$13.89 On SIBERIA, Echo & the Bunnymen's first studio album since 2001's FLOWERS, the brooding Liverpool band reunites with producer Hugh Jones, who worked on the post-punk group's revered early-1980s records CROCODILES and HEAVEN UP HERE. Collaborating with Jones, ...
| | Arctic Monkeys Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not CD (2006)
Best Little Secrets Are Kept songs
$11.59 Reportedly the fastest-selling debut in British history at the time of its early-2006 release, the Arctic Monkeys' WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT is a brash, hook-filled album that immediately warrants music fans' attention, if perhaps not all of the pre-release hype. Clearly taking notes on the evolution of U.K. punk, the Sheffield-based band reveal the influence of revered predecessors such as the Jam and the Clash, while most notably evoking the Libertines in their youthful, hood-rat persona. On this hyperactive 13-track set, singer/guitarist Alex Turner is armed with an arsenal ...
| | Buzzcocks Flat-Pack Philosophy CD (2006)
Best Little Secrets Are Kept album
$13.09 Thirty years after their 1976 formation in Manchester, England, the Buzzcocks released FLAT-PACK PHILOSOPHY, an album of invigorated punk tunes that sports the group's straightforward, streamlined sound. Fronting a lineup that has stayed consistent since the ensemble's 1993 reunion, founding guitarists/vocalists ...
| | Howard Devoto Jerky Versions Of The Dream CD (1983) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Best Little Secrets Are Kept CD music
$9.69 Erstwhile Buzzcock and former front man of post-punk outfits Magazine and Luxuria, Howard Devoto has always been somewhat difficult to peg musically. After disbanding Magazine in the early '80s, Devoto went on to pursue a short-lived solo career, resulting in his lone 1983 effort, JERKY VERSIONS OF THE DREAM. More pop-based than any of his previous efforts, the songs all feature Devoto's distinctive croon--a discomfiting mix of seduction and caustic menace. Like his material with Magazine, Devoto's lyrics are peppered with poetic allusions to politics, both personal and social. The slow building heat of "Cold Imagination" comes across like a post-punk quiet storm. Trapped in the deep freeze of his own mind, his anguished ...
