Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 album for sale Product Description
Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 album for sale by Joel Rafael was released May 09, 2005 on the Appleseed label. Joel Rafael's second album of Woody Guthrie songs is more ambitious than his first, 2003's Woodeye, and turns to more obscure material. On Woodeye, Rafael applied his husky voice (perhaps closer to Ramblin' Jack Elliott than to Guthrie) and folk/country band arrangements to some of Guthrie's more familiar songs, though he also dug up some rare stuff and even provided a musical setting to an unpublished Guthrie lyric, "Dance a Little Longer." He goes further into the arcane here, with good results. Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. ...See Full Description

Mob Rules Temple of Two Suns CD (2000)
Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 buy CD music A disc based in the neo-classical power and fantasy type of prog metal, this CD fares a lot better than many in that genre. So many times bands that try to create in that niche become very overblown, pompous, and silly. Mob Rules does not fall into that trap. In fact, this disc has some incredible prog metal with strong Iron Maiden and Queensryche leanings. Yes, they do go in for the neo-classical arrangements and the powerful textures, but they temper it with a mature restraint and the performances are very strong. The music is very diverse in approach, going from straightforward metal to balladic to Dream Theater-ish prog, sometimes in the course of one song. This is a very strong work. ~ Gary Hill

Crooked Stilo Cumbia Urbana: The Album CD (2008)
Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 CD music When Crooked Stilo parted company with the Univision-distributed Fonovisa Records in 2007, it wasn't the end of the line for the Los Angeles-based Salvadoran rap duo. Victor "Lunatiko" Lopez and his hermano, Johnny "El Duke" Lopez, recorded for independent labels long before signing with Fonovisa in 2003, and they returned to the indie world when they reemerged on Mi Estilo/Select-O-Hits with their first post-Fonovisa CD, Cumbia Urbana: The Album. Stylistically, this 2008 release isn't a departure from Crooked Stilo's Fonovisa output; they still favor a Latin-drenched, club-minded approach to West Coast hip-hop, and they still rap in both Spanish and English. But Spanish maintains the upper hand on Cumbia Urbana: The Album (as it did on their Fonovisa releases), and the vast majority of the lyrics are en espańol. The 50-minute disc's strong Latin appeal, however, doesn't just come from the lyrics -- it also comes from the grooves, many of which combine hip-hop with cumbia. The cumbia influence, in fact, is impossible to miss on infectious tracks like "Ese Soy Yo," "La Charanga," "Perdóname," and "El Vasile." And even though Crooked Stilo aren't reggaetón artists per se, the influence of reggaetón serves them well on "Bouncy" and "Damelo." Cumbia Urbana: The Album has its poignant moments; "Mi Tierra" is a thoughtful ode to Crooked Stilo's native El Salvador. But this is a party album first and foremost, and it is an enjoyable one. In the grand scheme of things, Crooked Stilo's four-year association with Fonovisa is only a small part of their history; the duo was formed in 1991, which means that Crooked Stilo were together 12 years before signing with Fonovisa. So for longtime fans, it should come as no surprise that they came out with a new album only a year after their association with Fonovisa ended. And those longtime fans will find Cumbia Urbana: The Album to be an engaging addition to their catalog. ~ Alex Henderson

Etchingham Steam Band CD (1995)
Woodyboye: Songs of Woody Guthrie and Tales Worth Telling, Vol. 2 album for sale While the Etchingham Steam Band, an acoustic traditional folk band formed by Ashley Hutchings and his then-wife, Shirley Collins, never released an album during their existence, this mix of live and studio tracks gives a good idea of what they must have sounded like. The acoustic outlook was a response to the power cuts that were part of England in 1974-1975. But there's enough here to make you wish they'd recorded properly. The concertina-dominated band offers many moods, from the seasonal quiet of "The Sussex Carol" to the dancing joy of "Bonny Kate," in a set that veers away from the tried and true of folk standards -- only "Hard Times of Old England" and "Horn Fair" are really known. Collins is in lovely voice, as always, one of the great singers of English folk music, and she performs with gusto throughout, while the band is always subtle but storming behind her. They might have been just a back-to-basics blip in the history of English folk music, but they were well worth commemorating. ~ Chris Nickson
During 1974 and 1975, Shirley Collins and Ashley Hutchings led an acoustic ensemble playing the traditional music of southern England, around the folk clubs and festivals of Britain. 20 years later this important historical collection draws upon a number
