Jack DeJohnette has long been known as one of the most exciting and consistently stimulating drummers in jazz, one who always pushes ahead. Well, forget that musical description of DeJohnette, at least for this CD. DeJohnette is heard on a keyboard and, near the piece's conclusion, resonating bells, performing what is accurately described as "music for meditating, relaxation and healing." He has a droning tone going throughout this endless improvisation while his right hand plays long notes and brief, aimless melodies. One waits in vain for something -- anything -- interesting to occur, but it never does. To be fair, this is meant to be background music for one's deep thoughts. But after listening to this monotonous recital straight through, one will need a different form of "healing" music to recover from the mood that it casts! Even for new age music, this is incredibly dull. ~ Scott Yanow
Personnel: Jack DeJohnette (keyboards, bells).

| | Roy Buchanan Live In Japan CD (2003) (Import) Germany
Music In The Key Of Om CD music
$18.39 LIVE IN JAPAN was recorded during the British blues guitarist's 1977 Japanese tour, and includes both Roy Buchanan originals and covers ranging from Larry Williams' "Slow Down" to Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams."
Live in Japan (2003) is said to have been Roy Buchanan's favorite of all his platters, and ironically, it was never issued stateside. However, as word spread, the title became an essential addition to his discography. Fact is that it may have never come out at all, had there not been a loophole in Buchanan's contract with former label Polydor, giving them control over his non-North American output. Joining the guitarist for his 1977 tour of Japan are John Harrison (bass), Malcolm Lukens (keyboards), and Byrd Foster (drums/vocals). They are likewise the core contributors to Buchanan's most recent ...
| | Jack DeJohnette Music From The Hearts Of The Masters CD (2005)
Music In The Key Of Om music CDs
$14.69 When Foday Musa Suso teamed with drummer Hamid Drake in the `80s to form the Mandingo Griot Society, the usage of kora and the American drum kit was a novelty, and successfully but precariously placed the traditions of African village music and jazz oriented polyrhythms in a new place. Suso and the veteran drummer Jack DeJohnette team up in duets that do not juxtapose, but complement the rhythmic strengths of the different instruments, creating a language of their own. Suso is happy to play the vibrant shimmering melodies his 21-string instrument uniquely brings to the table, while DeJohnette adopts a sensitive, supportive rather than similarly melodic role, forming funky beats, cymbal accents, and colorations ...

$14.55 Although they originally became famous for playing with different big bands (trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison with Count Basie and tenor saxophonist Ben Webster with Duke Ellington), the two very distinctive swing stylists recorded together frequently in the late 1950s including with Billie Holiday. The music on this two-CD set is drawn from four different record projects from 1956-1957. A pair of Edison-led records, Sweets and Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You?, are reissued in full. The two horns are joined on the former set by pianist Jimmy Rowles and guitarist Barney Kessel in the rhythm quartet while the latter has the Oscar Peterson Quartet. Not too surprisingly, ...
| | Romero Lubambo Softly CD (2006)
Music In The Key Of Om album
$14.59 Romero Lubambo has been one of the most impressive South American guitarists to arrive on the jazz scene.
