| | Bonnaroo Music Festival 2004 CD
By 2004, the Bonnaroo festival's third year, the lauded Tennessee music event had transcended its jam-band tag, becoming the one of the preeminent annual US rock gatherings. Although jam-oriented acts such as the Dead, Dave Matthews, and Trey Anastasio all turned in sets here, the 2004 lineup also included acclaimed singer/songwriters (Gillian Welch, Beth Orton, Damien Rice), Southern alt-rockers (My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon), and rock icons (Bob Dylan, Steve Winwood, David Byrne).
While this two-disc, 24-song sampler barely skims the surface of the music on offer during this three-day festival, it still presents a fine example of Bonnaroo's eclectic sounds. On "This Disc," Dylan leads his band through a rollicking take on "Down Along the Cove," Welch brings haunting bluegrass to the masses with "Caleb Meyer," and My Morning Jacket rocks out with fierce abandon on "One Big Holiday." On "That Disc," eccentric bands Primus and Ween churn out strange, moody tunes with "Frizzle Fry" and "Zoloft," respectively. One thing that unites many performers here, regardless of their musical style, is love of the extended live song, with more than half of the tracks exceeding the five-minute mark. Clearly, the Bonnaroo festival is a place for both musicians and their fans to cut loose, and this compilation serves to reinforce that carefree vibe. Bonnaroo Music Festival 2004 album
$7.59 Combining layered vocals with a heavily looped guitar sound, "Until We Sleep" begins ABOUT FACE with an almost Byrds-like quality, while the gentleness of the acoustic opening to the ballad "Murder" disguises its homicidal subject matter. Both "Love On the Air," and "All Lovers are Deranged," are distinguished by lyrics written by Pete Townshend, and "Blue Light" is an attempt at funk with a Floydian flavor. Gilmour's strength at ballad writing is evidenced in "Out of the Blue," ...
| | David Gilmour CD (1978) Remastered
Bonnaroo Music Festival 2004 CD music
$6.79 Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely harmonica and, with "No Way" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore," expounds ...

With tracks taken from a live set in Chicago in October 2007 and later bolstered by overdubs from a Nashville session (essentially studio strings and backing vocals), THE SOUNDSTAGE SESSIONS matches the energy of a hot live set with pristine studio touches. Nicks concentrates ...
| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Bonnaroo Music Festival 2004 album
$14.42 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief ...
