(10 Customer Reviews)
Given the title BEFORE THE ROBOTS, one might assume that Better Than Ezra's 2005 album is a concept record with a sci-fi bent. Fear not, though, BTE is still crafting catchy pop songs; drummer Travis McNabb merely nicked the name from a bizarre dream. Here, the New Orleans trio offers 13 tunes that are a crisp mix of storytelling prowess and genre dabbling. The record includes the neo-funk of "Juicy," which finds frontman/composer Kevin Griffin taking on a Mick Jagger-circa-SOME GIRLS falsetto, and the post-modern Bonnie and Clyde tale "A Southern Thing," which finds room for a mix of loops and grungy guitar riffs. Of course, Griffin's strengths are as a raconteur, a talent he displays with a narrative inspired by the demise of country-rock legend Gram Parsons on the jangly "A Lifetime." Equally impressive is the mid-tempo, Tom Petty-like rocker "American Dream," which takes potshots at the major corporations of the world. The biggest anomaly on BEFORE THE ROBOTS is "It's Only Natural," a soulful nugget dotted with strings, subtle organ runs, and a dream-pop aura, co-written by neo-glam rockers Louis XIV.

Better Than, gets Better & Better In my opinion this is the cream of the crop. Having bought all of thier previous cds and being a moderate fan, I was truely impressed by the "Robots' album. They have turned the corner and hopefully more treats are in order for thier next offering. If you are going to buy your 1st Better Than Ezra cd I would recommend this one. BTE is BEA-utiful in this album!!! I took a chance by buying this CD of this unknown band, and it paid off big time. Better Than Ezra is simply amazing. I'd have to say that they're the 21st century coming of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Before the Robots is a smash hit! I totally agree w/ other reviewers: Burned sets the bar for the album, A Lifetime is addictive and fun, Overcome is melancholy but beautiful, Special is the shining gem of the album, Our Last Night brings tears, Our Finest Year is inspirational, and Breathless would be a perfect wedding or Valentine's Day jam. Rock on, BTE!!! Submitted by STONECOLD714 (Collegeville, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Their best one yet When I read all those other reviews I thought, 5 stars? Really? Then I bought it. Best new album I got since Sheryl Crow's "C'mon C'mon." Less raw than "Friction, Baby" and more consistently great than "Deluxe." 5 stars? Definitely. If you like anything you've ever heard from these guys, then buy this one. I'M IN LOVE WITH BETTER THAN EZRA!!! When I first put the cd into my computer to listen to it, I didn't know what to expect, but the slow starting to "Burned" put the bar up very high for the rest of the album. And, of course Before the Robots met the bar and raised it even higher! I don't have a favorite- they are all so amazing- I can't choose just one. I still haven't gotten the Closer cd, unfortunately I don't know when I will, but as soon as I find out where to get them, I'm buying it- for sure! Everyday I listen to all of their cds, and sing to them and never get bored. Better than Ezra is one of those bands who is really real and original, certainly not fake. I'm a fan, and always will be. I'm obsessed- if you haven't listened to their songs- listen-you won't regret it! I LOVE YOU BETTER THAN EZRA-Kevin, Tom, and Travis! Before The Robots music CDs
$6.15 Despite containing a few hidden gems, Chicago's 14th long player went primarily unnoticed when first released in the summer of 1980. The concurrently popular music styles of new wave and punk, as well as the last remnants of disco, had all but abandoned the septet's dependably horn-driven pop and dramatic balladry. In retrospect, it seems that the band had not yet recovered from the tragic loss of Terry Kath (guitar) less than two ...

Before The Robots album
$9.99 Akwaaba wo Africa - welcome to Africa in twi, the language of the Ashanti people of Ghana. With this first release, Akwaaba Music welcomes the world to its eclectic catalog of African music by locally established, yet globally unknown artists.Akwaaba traveled to West Africa to meet with scores of artists who have existing releases, but who have never had the opportunity to take their music outside of their native land. They signed fair deals: Akwaaba splits its net revenue 50-50 with all licensees, and works directly with the artist whenever possible.Acoustic Senegalese musicians, Malian Wassoulou pop stars, Ivorian coupé décalé entertainers, Ghanaian highlife and hiplife singers, reggae, hip hop and salsa artists... the wealth of music is staggering. Akwaaba wo Africa is the introduction to this wide spanning catalog of music you hear in Africa. TRACKLIST:01 – SIRA – RAHMANE DIALLO (SENEGAL)Rahmane comes from Fouta in northern Senegal, where he's been singing since elementary school in the 80s. With a little push from fellow fulani music giant Baaba Maal and a grant from ex-president Abdou Diouf, Rahmane got to record songs of timeless beauty. His songs are also a calling to the Senegalese youth, urging them to respect each other and cherish their rich cultural heritage.02 – BAKOYE – MAMOU SIDIBE (MALI)Mamou is a djelimousso or griot from the Wassoulou region of south-east Mali. For about 30 years now the region has been a musical hotbed for experimentation, where Manding and Peul traditions are fused with western instruments. Mamou started singing to encourage workers in the fields, before heading to the big city, Bamako, where she sang as a back-up singer for Malian star Oumou Sangaré. Mamou eventually left Oumou to develop her own style. Today, in Mali, she's considered one of the most prominent song divas.03 – BARO – AHMED FOFANA (MALI)Ahmed ...
