The mission is clear. Get in. Get the general. Get out. Commandos charged with freeing a U.S. general from an Alpine fortress should also be told to trust nothing - including the search-and-rescue orders just issued. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood go Where Eagles Dare in this twisty World War II thriller written by action master Alistair MacLean (The Guns of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra) and directed by Brian G. Hutton (Kelly's Heroes). Known for fiery dramatic roles, Burton ventures into the realm of movie pyrotechnics with dynamic efficiency. And Eastwood's cool-fire presence heightens one searing action sequence after another. The film became Eastwood's then-largest hit. During World War II, Allied agents are handpicked and sent to rescue an important American general held in the Schloss Adler, an impregnable German fortress high in the Bavarian Alps. Richard Burton stars as Major John Smith, a British agent during WWII who is in charge a group of six Allied soldiers given the task of rescuing an American general--who is reportedly in possession of the plans for D-Day--from a seemingly impregnable German fortress located high in the Bavarian Alps. Assisting Smith is the sole American in the operative, Lieutenant Morris Schaffer (Clint Eastwood), a fierce soldier skilled with an array of deadly weapons. As the men penetrate the fortress, facing an endless supply of German soldiers, it becomes apparent that some members of the small Allied team may not be who them seem to be. Full of thrilling action set pieces, the screenplay was written by Alistair MacLean, adapted from his own best selling novel. Film was originally rated M by the MPAA, but was re-rated PG when the M rating was discontinued.

Where Eagles Dare film
$8.85 Coming from a French director, Luc Jacquet, the miraculous MARCH OF THE PENGUINS would have to be a love story. And so it is. The film explores the mating rituals of the emperor penguin, one of the most resilient animals on earth. Each summer, after a nourishing period of deep-sea feeding, the penguins pop up onto the ice and begin their procession across the frozen tundra of Antarctica. Walking doggedly in single file, they are a sight to behold. Hundreds converge from every direction, moving instinctively toward their mating ground. Once there, they mingle and chatter until they find the perfect mate--a monogamous match that will last a year, through the brutal winter and into the spring. During that time, the mother will give birth to an egg and then leave for the ocean to feed again. The father will stay to protect the egg through the freezing blizzards and pure darkness of winter, which would be deadly to practically any other species. Finally, with spring, the egg hatches and the baby penguins are born. Mothers return from the sea to reunite with their families and feed the starving newborns, while the fathers ...

Where Eagles Dare review
$7.19 EDGE: An aging billionaire (Anthony Hopkins) and a fashion photographer (Alec Baldwin) having an affair with the rich man's wife must struggle against the elements--including a man-eating bear--after their plane goes down in the Alaskan wild. THE EDGE is an unusually dense and cerebral wilderness thriller, penned by David Mamet and helmed by Lee Tamahori (ONCE WERE WARRIORS).
TIGERLAND: Set in 1971, when America was a nation divided over the escalating violence and bloodshed of the Vietnam War, TIGERLAND begins when thousands of young soldiers had already lost their lives to the war, and thousands more were preparing to enter combat. In Fort Polk, Louisiana, a group of young soldiers-in-training have conflicting opinions about the war. Jim Paxton (Matthew Davis) is an idealistic romantic who sees Vietnam as potential inspiration for future novels and romantic war stories. Roland Bozz (Colin Farrell) is a rebellious antihero who decides that he wants no part of the army or the war and begins to disobey orders, trying to get expelled from the infantry. Paxton and Bozz ...

| | Four Of The Apocalypse DVD (1975) Widescreen; Subtitled
Where Eagles Dare movie DVD
$9.75 One of director Lucio Fulci's best spaghetti westerns, THE FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE was, like many of his films, extremely violent and therefore very controversial. Banned around the world, the film has long been available in only a heavily edited form, but, thanks to Anchor Bay, the film has been restored to its original glory. Fabio Testi stars as Stubby Preston, a suave gambler who, along with three other strangers, escape a small town prison and head out through the desert to freedom. However, when they come across a bandit named Chaco, a sadistic and torturous game begins as they try to survive the arid desert and ...
