| | Jimmy Buffett Now Yer Squawkin' CD Jimmy Buffett Discography of CDs
Recall's 2005 release Now Yer Squawkin' is a double-disc set containing Jimmy Buffett's first two albums, Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee, both recorded in 1972 even if the latter wasn't released until 1976. While these are not among his most popular albums, they are among his most endearing, since the soft country-rock of these two LPs not only captures the hippie vibes of the early '70s, these LPs are warm, tuneful, and relaxed in a way that Buffett would never be again; these are Jimmy Buffett records for country-rock fans who believe they don't like Buffett. Yes, they may not be among his most popular work, but since they were recorded for an indie label, they are among his most widely circulated, being reissued in various forms in the years after Buffett turned into a star. While Recall's collection is good, containing the two unabridged albums split over the course of two CDs, and has a good set of liner notes, some listeners may prefer Collectables' 2005 two-fer of these two LPs, since both records are packaged on a single CD (albeit without the liner notes). ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Set comprising of two Buffett early albums recorded for the legendary crooner Andy Williams's Barnaby Records in the early 70s, "Down To Earth" and "High Cumberland Jubilee".

Jimmy Buffett's major label debut (the title takes off from a sappy piece of late '50s teen pop by country singer Marty Robbins) is a bit more folky and laid back than you might expect. There are hints of the rowdier Buffett persona to come, but by and large this is early '70s mellow singer-songwriter stuff, albeit with cleverer than usual lyrics.
Highlights include "Death of an Unpopular Poet," a delicately arranged story song about ...

$7.89 The follow-up album to Jimmy Buffett's commercial breakthrough CHANGES IN LATITUDES, CHANGES IN ATTITUDES isn't quite as brash or atmospheric, but it's close enough that nobody seems to mind. The showstopper here, is, of course, the amusing ode to conspicuous consumption that is "Cheeseburger in Paradise" (it's a food that Buffett assures us in the chorus is "worth every damn bit of sacrifice!").
But the torchy Nelson Riddle-ish version of Keith Sykes' broken-heart ballad "Coast of Marseillles" is almost as memorable. "Manana" has one of his best-ever singalong choruses ...

When SIAMESE DREAM was initially released in the summer of 1993 it was hailed as alternative rock's first great post-NEVERMIND hope. And while it has gone on to become an overwhelming commercial success, it has also helped further re-draw the artistic borders of "alternative" music.
By combining neo-psychedelic AOR guitars (band-members proudly claim Boston as an influence) with Pumpkin auteur Billy Corgan's "outsider" lyrical stance, SIAMESE DREAM creates a rebel image; but one with a wandering eye towards mainstream acceptance as well. Consequently, Smashing Pumpkins are equally successful relating to young lollapaloozers and to classic rock radio.
The album's immediate attraction is plain to see. Corgan ...
