Sippin' Sorrow (With A Spoon) album
$12.39 ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION is a reissue of THE JACKSON 5 CHRISTMAS ALBUM released in 1970 on Motown, with ten bonus tracks. This is a pleasing combination of holiday classics, with not so classic, but still enjoyable, original tunes. Collectors will be interested in hearing the bonus cuts exclusive to this compilation, such as the spoken seasons greetings from Michael, Jermaine, Tito, and Jackie, originally issued on a 1973 promotional single; "Little Christmas Tree," from A MOTOWN CHRISTMAS, also from 1973; and remixed and ...

Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected by changes in taste and fashion--a movement unto herself.
As her most recent single (Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone To Love" from the PHILADELPHIA soundtrack) illustrates, Sade's coy caressing voice speaks more of commitment and trust, of relationships in flux ("Nothing Can Come Between Us") than ...

| | Best Of Lesley Gore CD (1998)
Sippin' Sorrow (With A Spoon) songs
$7.99 PSM's The Best of Lesley Gore is short at only 11 tracks, and it omits her third biggest hit, "Judy's Turn to Cry." You really can't have a collection call itself The Best of Lesley Gore and not have that song on it. It also leaves off number five hit "She's a Fool" and number 13 hit "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows." What actually does make it to the disc is a fine mix of Brill Building/girl group sounds from the distinctive singer. "It's My Party," "You Don't Own Me," and "Maybe I Know" are wonderful and timeless; "Look of Love," "California Nights," and "Off and Running" are all great, too. Still, you just don't need a Lesley Gore collection without three of her biggest hits and best songs. There are better collections out there; you may have to pay a bit more, but it will be worth it. [The Collectables label released the collection with the same title and a different cover in 2004.] ~ Tim Sendra
