This DVD/CD includes 11 classic tracks from the years 1971-1994, three of them previously unreleased. Those tracks have been speiced up with additional sounds to create an updated Faust soundscape without losing the classic drive. The images are raw, wild, and organic. Also included is legendary film footage from 1971. Truly revolutionary in their experimental spirit and willingness to push the limits of music, Faust were the first group to use the recording studio as an instrument. No one knew quite what to make of them upon the release of their 1971 eponymous debut, with its cacophonous, dischordant yet stripped-down sound, and the group paved the way for generations of experimental, ambient, and minimalist artists. After disbanding in 1975, the group played together in various incarnations over the next decade, reforming officially in the early 1990s. This release marks their first melding of visual and aural work; group founder Werner "Zappi" Diermaier orchestrated a total sensory experience with wild, organic images to accompany songs both classic and current. Three of these, "Ice Rain," "Listen," and Irena," are previously unreleased. Other songs include "Breakfast," "Waiting for Eternity," "Component," and "We Need You." Faust - Impressions Reviews: "With their looped intensity and ferocious eccentricity, taking simple and basic elements and, by over-concentration, revealing the unfamiliar in them, these visual pieces match their musical subject matter perfectly."

Faust - Impressions Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Faust - 'Impressions' DVD + CD (dist. by MVD) A very nicely assembled collection of eleven concept videos and snippets that go along with some of Faust's most memorable songs. Each video here is quite colorful as well as creative. To describe just a few: "D-Machine" shows band members hanging out and dining with someone wearing a bear costume and "Desert" is an outstanding instrumental showing a passenger's view sailing down a city river. Then there's the four track mini-album CD by original Faust member Zappi Diermaier. 'I Spin' is very much Avant Garde. "Virtual Reality" is the best cut. An absolute must-have. Worth Getting old, and new. faust DVD songs with their own Graphic's to it. also a CD from one of the members that is new and good Submitted by grw2002 (manchester, NH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Why don't you make videos? 'Impressions' is a collection of videos which offer interpretations of the band's music by one of its founder-members. Visually it consists of a colourful, digitally-enhanced, slightly amateurish mishmash of imagery from the natural and manmade worlds, often apparently irrelevant to the accompanying music but frequently still effective; soundwise it's an enjoyable second visit to typical Faust territory (with retrospective 'enlargements') giving a fair account of the imaginative, rhythmic and hypnotic screeching, throbbing, grunting, hammering and twittering which made up the unique lyrical-industrial soundscape of this peculiar and musically necessary band.
A bonus CD gives a promising foretaste of new work by the creator of the videos. Submitted by zunod (Devon, UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Faust - Impressions review
$33.25 The Small Faces present their four disc U.K. import reissue release OGDEN'S NUT GONE FLAKE.
Having begun their career as the archetypal Mod band, the Small Faces latterly embraced traces of flower-power's whimsy. Astute enough not to sacrifice their identity, the quartet retained a distinctive perspective, as evinced by a string of superb pop singles, including "Here Comes The Nice" and "Itchycoo Park." A sense of pop melody and adventurism culminated on this album which encompassed tongue-in-cheek fun ("Lazy Sunday") and passionate love songs ("Afterglow"). Steve Marriott's voice remains completely self-assured and the group's characteristic organ-based swell is often enhanced by P.P. Arnold's emotional backing vocals. Eccentric comedian Stanley Unwin narrates the concept suite "Happiness Stan," but the music is strong enough to withstand the novelty tag. OGDENS' NUT GONE FLAKE was the Small Faces' swan-song, at least until an ill-starred reunion, but it proved a fitting end to a golden era.

Faust - Impressions DVD
$11.19 Three years is a long time in the music industry, as these incredible concerts indefatigably prove. The first takes place in 1982. A young bluseman takes to the stage at the Montreux Festival, ably backed by a highly competent band. The cynical crowd doesn't take kindly to the virtuoso skills presented for their listening pleasure, and the beleaguered future star is booed and heckled throughout. Fortunately the worldly wise figure of Jackson Browne has his head turned at the concert, and proceeds to offer the flowering talents of Stevie Ray Vaughan some precious studio time. Fast forward three years to 1985, and Vaughan returns to the festival. Now the headline act, the ultimate vindication for Stevie is provided by a crowd which hangs on his every movement. Both concerts are presenting here, offering a tremendous way to experience Vaughan's music and rise to fame, as well as offering precious hope for any aspiring artists who meet with a frosty reception from a hostile crowd.

$14.69 The sisters Casady set the weirdness bar awfully high on their homemade debut, LA MAISON DE MON REVE, but this inspired follow-up finds the bar ascended as the angels take it on the road, recording everywhere from barnyards to actual music studios. As usual, classically trained vocalist Sierra delivers the delirious operatic vocalizing and plays piano, dulcimer, and autoharp while Bianca coos like a 12-year old vampire Billie Holiday and makes percussive noise from computers and shakers with equal abandon.
