Soundtrack English An entertaining big-screen version of the hit Broadway musical based on Al Capp's popular comic strip.
The U.S. Congress has selected the hillbilly town of Dogpatch as the most useless location in the entire country and, therefore, the perfect site to test A-bombs. When the none-too bright Li'l Abner and the other citizens get wind of what's going on, they set out to prove that their neighborhood has value.
But can the simple people of Dogpatch actually devise a plan that will win over the government?
Among the many delightful tunes you'll hear are "Don't That Take the Rag Off'n the Bush" and "I'm Past My Prime." Based on the popular Broadway hit about a hillbilly town called Dogpatch and how the townspeople make a ruckus when they find out it's being taken over as a test site for A-bombs. Academy Award Nominations: Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. Shot in VistaVision. Color by Technicolor.
Released theatrically in New York City December 11, 1959.
Additional cast: Joe E. Marks (Pappy Yokum); Bern Hoffman (Earthquake McGoon); Al Nesor (Evil Eye Fleagle); William Lanteau (Available Jones); Ted Thurston (Senator Jack S. Phogbound); Carmen Alvarez (Moonbeam McSwine); Stanley Simmonds (Rasmussen T. Finsdale); Joe Ploski (Hairless Joe); and Diki Lerner (Lonesome Polecat).

Li'L Abner Movie Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) Dogpatch USA What a wonderful and entertaining movie/musical. I loved this story of Dogpatch USA, Daisy Mae, Lil Abner and Yokumberry Tonic so much as a child and I love it just as much now. What a difference in the movie stars of the 50's. The women are so voluptuous and healthy looking and who could say NO to Lil Abner? What a charmer. I give this movie 5 stars! Nothin' like a good ole-time classic! I also remember this movie when it first appeared in theaters. I was rather surprised when I saw an actor playing a bit part that I completely forgot, namely a young early comedian named Jerry Lewis. This was before he teamed with Dean Martin and before his rise as a popular stand-up comic actor and later, director, of his own films.
Thanks for the laughs, Jerry! Submitted by treker1028 (Chicago, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Li'L Abner DVD
$16.89 The title refers to the night when three men, Randy (Matt Dillon), his cousin Carl (Paul Reiser) and Detective Dehling (John Goodman), all meet Jewel Valentine (Liv Tyler) at a bar called McCool's. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel led him to ruin, filmed in a stylized flashback ...

| | In Good Company DVD (2004) Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
Li'L Abner DVD
$6.55 In his previous effort, ABOUT A BOY, writer-director Paul Weitz managed to smoothly blend elements of dark comedy with heartwarming drama to deftly undercut both of the genre's undesirable excesses. IN GOOD COMPANY is Weitz's solo directorial debut sans his brother Chris, with whom he co-helmed the aforementioned BOY and the wildly successful AMERICAN PIE series. Here, he perfects his gift for the so-called "dramedy," softening the jagged, sometimes ugly edges of corporate satire with warmth and sentiment.
Dennis Quaid is perfectly cast as Dan Foreman, a slightly weary yet still dashing advertising boss and dedicated family man. He seems to have it all as a wholesome and admirable father, an existence which smacks of the archetypical mid-century sitcom dad that he so brilliantly portrayed as the secretly homosexual husband-father in Todd Haynes' FAR FROM HEAVEN. Enter Carter Duryea (THAT 70s SHOW's Topher Grace), a cocky ...
