Celebrated for their cerebral film scores and brooding instrumental albums, Germany's Tangerine Dream tried a new formula with 1987's TYGER, setting William Blake's poetry to music. Guest vocalist Jocelyn B. Smith trades her usual R&B style for a more studied approach. Sounding at times like Nina Simone, Smith's rich alto injects new life and passion into the words of the 18th century British poet.
TYGER's melodies are vintage Tangerine Dream--lush and expansive themes that pick up speed and morph into frenetic dance pop. As always, drum machines and synths abound. The tension between ethereal soundscapes and frenzied abandon creates a hypnotic effect, and perfectly suits Blake's vision of humanity's eternal dance between sin and salvation. Three original instrumental tracks expand on the Blake songs and round out the album.
Recorded at Dream Studios, Berlin, Germany and Eastgate Studios, Vienna, Austria in 1987. Includes liner notes by Paul Russell.
Tangerine Dream: Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Paul Haslinger.
Additional personnel: Jocelyn Bernadette Smith (vocals).

| Tyger Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Nice work, nice experiment, worth the money I had this on tape years ago when it came out, I had forgotten how good it is. The first track is the weakest, strangely, and it gets much better with each track. If you like TD but don't have this, buy it. Submitted by jaysnextaddress (Aurora, CO) Was This Review Helpful? i always thought this was a compilation... ...but i found out that it was the opposite: a concept album based on a not so interesting idea, but the music is really good.it's just that i expected it to be like "the wall"or something...generally i'm pleased with the music, i only try to forget that it is supposed to have a concept.A nice representative album of the TD during the 80s, but you'll have to ask for more Submitted by glabedakistheo (athens, greece) Was This Review Helpful? An ideal start for a beginner TD Fan This was for some reason not a ideal release by some fans.Something to do with the poetry by Willam Blake.Well this is classic TD let me tell you.Absolutely brillant.Their is a remastered version with a bonus track, which on my version only ends with 21st century common man.The guitar on this is astounding every track a winner with track 3 .Alchemy of the Heart a beautiful track with majestic piano.I havent seen this track peformed live on any of the bootmon series that features the band in the eighties.Does anybody know a live album this beautiful track appears.Nothing wrong with the poetry dont forget the band are trying to experiment and this band does it well.I dont care what the concept is.This is an excellent release.10/10.

Tyger music CDs
$12.39 The title of this television-advertised compilation may be arrogant, but then the tango is not a dance for the shy and retiring. Whether or not it is, as it claims, The Best Tango Album in the World, Ever!, the two-disc set, containing 30 tracks and running a little less than an hour and a half, does feature some major performers of the music, notably Carlos Gardel, renowned as the father of the tango, heard performing "Volver" and the concluding vocal version of "Mi Buenos Aires Querido," and Astor Piazzolla, who used the tango ...

| | Steeped In The Blues Tradition CD (1996)
Tyger album
$10.49 Steeped in the Blues Tradition is a notable budget compilation of pre- and postwar acoustic blues -- a much more varied sampler of Tradition's blues catalog than the three-CD set Best of Blues Tradition, Vol. 1. While there might seem to be a lot of overly familiar blues fare here ("See See Rider," "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," "Baby Please Don't Go"), when it's played by the likes of Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Big Bill Broonzy, it's as good as original. Compilation producer Anton Glovsky makes sure to include a handful of celebrated blues revival moments, such as performances by Hopkins, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, and Big Joe Williams at the Ash Grove in the early '60s, as well as the jaw-dropping 1960 studio session that united this fantastic ...
| | Pinehurst Kids Viewmaster CD (2000)
Tyger CD music
$11.99 The Pinehurst Kids sure kick up quite a racket for a three-piece. In the noblest of indie-rock traditions they marry a wall of distortion to a wall of melody. And with a best man of earnest angst, and a bridesmaid of raging enthusiasm, you get one kicking wedding.
They pack quite a punch into their guitar/bass/drums format, but this isn't pointless froth on the cappuccino; there's a triple shot of espresso at the bottom of the cup--great songs. And these songs are pure caffeine--they wake you up and keep you up. Though they're not breaking any new ground, they prove that the old ground is as fertile and fruitful as it ever was.
PINEHURST KIDS“Pinehurst Kids surpass the bulk of their contemporaries in the easy-sounding power pop genre by way of passion, energy, and, most importantly, talent.” –The Stranger: May 2001With Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Joe Davis at the helm, Pinehurst Kids have established a solid presence in the national college music scene, and show no signs of slowing down. "Joe Davis plays like a man who fears the end could come any minute. His bandmates possess the same frantic pop grind as Superchunk, as well as the choirboy sweetness of Sunny Day Real Estate. The music's frail and fresh, and it goes by at 90 miles an hour." --Alternative Press; July 1999In terms of experience, Pinehurst Kids aren't exactly kids anymore. By 1997, Joe Davis had escaped his childhood haunts of Pinehurst and Boise, Idaho and moved to Portland, Oregon where he began crafting high-energy pop songs. With the addition of Caleb Gates on bass, it wasn't long before Pinehurst ...
