Nickels & Dimes
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," ...

| | Ronnie Earl Duke Meets The Earl CD (2005) (Import) Canada
Nickels & Dimes
$15.19 The Duke Meets the Earl seems like an obvious album, pairing two of New England's finest contemporary blues guitarists, Duke Robillard and Ronnie Earl, who both share the same sort of hard, clear tone in their playing (Earl actually replaced Robillard in Roomful of Blues when the latter left the group for a solo career). For Earl, who has been working in a kind of jazz blues hybrid style in recent years, it marks a return to straight blues, and with guests like Jimmy McGriff and Mighty Sam McClain aboard on select tracks, The Duke Meets the Earl has the feel of a super session. Throughout, Earl's guitar is featured in the left channel and Robillard's ...

Nickels & Dimes
$13.89 ALRIGHT AGAIN! won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Recording.
ALRIGHT AGAIN! is one of roots music wizard Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's finest moments. The 1982 Grammy-winning album finds Brown honing his particular melange of traditional blues, swing, jump, jazz, and country flavors to a punchy, sophisticated edge with the help of a 10-piece R&B big band. Impeccably tight, hard driving arrangements are propelled by a powerhouse rhythm section, while the cadre of five horns lends thick punctuation to Brown's throaty, no nonsense vocals, slashing guitar leads, and wild violin, notably on "Baby Take it Easy."
As usual, there's equal emphasis on originals and covers, as the album ...
| | Bobby "Blue" Bland Anthology CDs (2001)
Nickels & Dimes
$14.89 There are a number of excellent Bobby "Blue" Bland collections on the market, but MCA's ANTHOLOGY may outdistance them all. A beautifully compiled and packaged set, ANTHOLOGY covers three decades of the singer's career. Bland's work from the 1980s and after is not represented here, but that's a small matter, since many of his finest recordings (cut on a variety of labels, many of them small independents) date from the '60s and early '70s. It was this material--a sophisticated combination of gutbucket Texas blues and emotive R&B crooning--that came to define the soul sound of the chitlin' circuit
Those familiar with Bland's work will recognize all of the singer's R&B chart classics (from "I Pity the Fool" to "Turn on Your Lovelight" to "Who Will The Next Fool Be?"), as well as important album cuts, while an unreleased live tune shows just how much Bland stretches out in concert. Detailed liner notes give plenty of background on both the recording sessions and Bland himself, but best of all is the remastered sound, which sparkles, and brings Bland's rich voice and uniquely moving delivery into crisp definition. As either an introduction to the legendary vocalist, or as a comprehensive recap for ...
