Billy Bob Thornton stars in this extended version. Small-town simpleton Karl Childers has spent most of his life in a mental institution, after he killed his mother and her lover with the eponymous weapon at age 12. Now middle-aged, Karl is deemed healthy -- and released into a world he hasn't inhabited since he was a pre-teen. Although many of Karl's experiences in the "real world" are very troubling, they give him valuable insight into human nature... and himself. But can he completely escape his tragic past?
Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Actor--Billy Bob Thornton. Academy Awards: Best Adapted Screenplay. After catching his mother and her boyfriend "in flagrante delicto" and dispatching both of them with a farm implement known as a sling blade, a simpleminded 11-year-old boy is sent to a mental hospital where he spends the next 25 years. Upon his release, the emotionally and mentally stunted man-child returns to his Arkansas hometown and takes a job in a local garage, only to have the past inexorably repeat itself. An indie-film triumph, adapted by star-writer-director Thornton from his 1993 short, "Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade." Academy Award Nominations: 2, including Best Actor--Billy Bob Thornton. Sling Blade Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) great movie Great movie at a great price. Thanks alot Submitted by kazookev07 (Valparaiso,Iniana) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Movie I have seen this movie several times and, to me, it never gets old. The lesson to be learned in this movie never gets old either. The story is a little slow for this new generation of action every 7 minutes movie-goers, but the entire movie itself is truly exceptional. Outstanding I can't get enough of this movie. I can watch this flick day in and day out. Billy Bob Thorton has played this part to the tee. I grew up in a town like this and many things really are on the money. For instance Dwight yokum plays his part and reminds me of some of the people in that little town. Observe The Heart I think everyone could learn a great lesson from this movie. People are so quick to judge a person by their outer appearance. If you learn to take time and see a person from the inside, this world would be a greater place. Wonderful job by ALL characters!! AMERICAN GRAFFITI presents a powerful collage of youth on the brink of maturity just before the assassination of J.F.K.. Based on George Lucas's own teenage hot-rodding days in Modesto, California, this brilliant, bittersweet comedy inspired numerous other productions, including the long-running TV series HAPPY DAYS. Lucas's second feature film (following THX 1138), AMERICAN GRAFFITI contains an early screen appearance by Harrison Ford, who would figure heavily in the director's next movie, the sci-fi epic STAR WARS. The film follows one night in the lives of several recently graduated high school students. The genial Steve (Ron Howard) prepares ...

Sling Blade review
$8.95 Loosely based on the 1960 Rat Pack film of the same name, OCEAN'S 11 is a hi-tech crime comedy that features a top-notch cast. Con man Danny Ocean (George Clooney) has just been released from a four-year jail term and decides that his first order of business is robbing three Las Vegas casinos owned by the slimy Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia). To pull off this nearly impossible task, he quickly assembles an eclectic crew--including a card shark (Brad Pitt), a pickpocket (Matt Damon), an explosives expert (Don Cheadle), and an aging gambler (Carl Reiner)--and seeks financial backing from a freewheeling casino mogul (Elliott Gould) who holds a grudge against Benedict. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ocean has more at stake than money and his newly found freedom--his ex-wife, Tess (Julia Roberts), just happens to be Benedict's new girlfriend. Can Ocean steal back Tess's heart and more than a hundred million dollars at the same time?

Sling Blade DVD
$15.25 Writer-director Quentin Tarantino revisits the seedier side of Los Angeles--following 1992's RESERVOIR DOGS--with this funny, violent, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the less "classic" side of filmmaking--the potboilers and capers, the Blaxploitation flicks and gangster movies. The film interweaves three tales, told in a circular, fractured manner, which only fully connect by the time the final credits roll. The first story focuses on Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), two hit ...

Sling Blade movie DVD
$13.39 Master of suspense Claude Chabrol takes aim at both terrorists and the establishment in his chilling film, NADA. A left wing gang of motley anarchists called Nada kidnap the American ambassador to Paris from an exclusive Parisian brothel. The overall confusion, violence, and mayhem following this act makes both the terrorists and the police force look like bumbling, confused, destructive idiots. Chabrol's trademark cold stare at the typical bourgeois family is this time aimed at the Nada gang as they hide out in their country farmhouse and wait for a response to their ransom demands for the ambassador. As the group begins to form their own kind of dysfunctional anarchist family unit, it becomes obvious that the French authorities are less concerned about the safe return of the ambassador than with the capture of the terrorists. The police stop at nothing to get to the gang, ferreting out friends and relatives, ...

| | Chorus DVD (2005)
Sling Blade review
$10.49 A memorable entry in the genre of inspirational pedagogical films, THE CHORUS is an uplifting tale of a masterful teacher who put his heart into his work and changed the lives of his students forever. With a soundtrack of boys' singing, the lovely music of this film is the glue that will stick to viewers long after watching it. Set in 1940s rural France, at a school for poor boys who are delinquent or orphaned, the story feels timeless in the way that it captures a crucial moment in the lives of the boys involved. Ranging from early elementary school level to junior high, the boys struggle for independence and self-expression. They defy authority, especially when it comes from their brutally unfair and abusive headmaster, Rachin (Francois Berleand). And in general, because they feel neglected ...
