From the brilliant cover illustration by M.C. Escher to what nearly every critic called a "straightfaced" version of Sonny Bono's "Laugh At Me" (as though it was impossible to perform it any other way), Mott The Hoople's debut album showed that they were clearly no ordinary post-psychedelic British band. Their original material, particularly guitarist Mick Ralph's "Rock And Roll Queen," presaged the glam sound for which they would later become renowned. Appropriately, Mott The Hoople was produced by the inventive (and seriously whacked) Guy Stevens. A decade later, the Clash, who were strongly influenced by Mott The Hoople, called upon him to produce LONDON CALLING.

Recorded in July 1969. Includes liner notes by Keith Smith.

Mott the Hoople: Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs.

Mott The Hoople: Ian Hunter (vocals, piano); Mick Ralphs (guitar, background vocals); Verden Allen (organ); Overend Watts (bass); Buffin (drums).

Entertainment Weekly (4/12/91) - "...The band's 1969 debut...was a bracing mixture of self-consciously Dylanized vocals, power guitar and churning organ swirls...contains reckless but successful undertakings..." - Rating: A
NME (Magazine) (2/13/93, p.31) - 8 - Excellent - "...it was the raucous rendition of The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' which would determine the next three years. It became a live favorite, grew to an apocalyptic 20 minutes in length and turned Mott The Hoople into the wildest rock & roll experience Britain has ever seen..."

This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine." Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped only by Ron Wood's reappearance on a finale of the Stones' "Ruby Tuesday." VH1 PRESENTS THE CORRS LIVE IN DUBLIN is a fine mix of the band's greatest hits with a few well-chosen covers, which will doubtless reach out to new fans and longtime Corrs aficionados alike. Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, ...

While MUSICALLY RICH...AND FAMOUS documents the second half of British blues godfather Alexis Korner's career, KORNERSTONED adopts a more comprehensive approach, following the pioneering singer/guitarist from the very beginning of his musical life, all the way through every subsequent phase of his development. So we get not only his mid-1960s work with burgeoning blues-rock giants like Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott, but also his `50s skiffle recordings (basically the British version of jug-band music) with the Ken Colyer band and his own skiffle group, and even an early acoustic guitar duel with famed fingerpicker Davey Graham on "3/4 A.D." Over the course of its two discs, this collection examines pretty much every aspect of this seminal bandleader's historic career. Gravel-voiced Alexis Korner is arguably the most important figure in the history of British blues - the inspiration for several generations of star musicians, from The Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin & beyond. This first-ever full-career retrospective spans everything ...

Digitally remastered by Larry Keyes (CBS Records Studio, New York, New York). Mott The Hoople are often associated with the '70s glam movement, but their only real connection to that style was their involvement with David Bowie. In fact, the band was much more closely tied to the post-folkie work of Bob Dylan. Singer Ian Hunter had his British version of Dylan's transcendent moan down to a science. Though they were essentially a pure rock & roll band (and one of the main influences on the Clash), Mott sported detailed lyrics informed by the Dylan school, almost to the point of self-consciousness. One of the band's great strengths was its knack for self-mythology, as borne out by "All The Way From Memphis," a Chuck Berry-ish number about the travails of the road. "Ballad of Mott the Hoople" is an ironic but poignant look at the way the band failed to meet the expectations of both themselves and their fans. Amidst all this heady introspection, there's plenty of arresting hard rock guitar courtesy of Mick Ralphs. Things end on a quirky, oddly sentimental note with "I Wish I Was Your Mother," a folkie, idiosyncratic love song colored by chiming mandolin, and marked by some of Hunter's most inspired writing. Additional personnel includes: Graham Preskitt (violin); Paul Buckmaster (electric cello); Andy Mackay (saxophone); Thunderthighs (backround vocals). Includes four bonus tracks. Recorded at Air London Studios and EMI Abbey Road, London, England, from February-April 1973. Engineers: Bill Price, Alan Harris, John Leckie. Mott The Hoople album

In 1973, the members of Mott the Hoople were tired. Island Records had dropped the band after three albums, as sales were low and audience interest was almost non-existent. But the band had a famous fan in David Bowie, who offered to write them one single to give them a leg up. That single was the chart-topping "All the Young Dudes," a glitter-era wink-wink celebration of male bonding that name-checked chart-toppers T. Rex and repositioned the once-laddish band as glammy, androgynous scenesters. Obviously, an album was called for. Produced by Bowie and opening with a smoking cover of "Sweet Jane" that played a major role in raising public awareness of the Velvet Underground, ALL THE YOUNG DUDES is a brassy, loud, obnoxious--in the best possible sense--rock & roll album. "Sucker" and "One of the Boys" recall the hit, while "Jerkin' Crocus" and "Sea Diver" are as odd as the band's earlier ...

Born 1962, and raised in Flint, Michigan, I was beating on pots and pans at age 1. I am the youngest of 10 children; I started getting serious about music performance in middle school, after listening to my older brothers’ bands. I played formal clarinet in the public school setting through 4th, 5th and 6th grades, and started playing Drums and percussion in the 7th grade middle school band. I received an eye opining advancement by studying Drum Set with Bill Schaffer and Melodic Percussion with Anna Watkins in the 70’s and 80’s.Charles Fair, a then local middle school music Instructor who encouraged the seemingly impossible, motivated my growth of performance on more than one instrument at a time. I started with the idea of playing bells and trap-set simultaneously. Ever since then, I’ve sought out the most expressive instrumental voices to create a sincerely strong performance. I now seek Professional Endorsement from the most reputable name in drum manufacturing to further my efforts in bringing forth the knowledge of, and enjoyment in, the Art of Percussion Performance, as a means of human expression.I’m currently working as Director of Band at Central High School, the Fine Arts Magnet here in Flint, Michigan. The place: melbourne, australia. The story: formed in late 2001 by ex-members of the spoilers and the sex bombs, the blacklist went into the studio in january 2002 to record their debut ep 'attacks' without having played a single show together. Throughout the next 12 months the band refined and defined their sound. They moved away from the original punk rock leanings they began with and gravitated towards the blazing trail already forged by past and present greats such as venom, motorhead, the hookers and zeke. After a year or so of solid gigging around melbourne, the blacklist went back into the studio to work on their debut album, "electric and evil", released on spooky records. Recorded in september 2003 the album did not see the light of day until late 2004. Late in 2004 todd of thunder happily accepted the blacklist's offer of a one-way ticket on the triple axe attack suicide machine!!! Slotting effortlessly into the line-up, the blacklist debuted the triple axe attack with uk punk legends the anti-nowhere league. The band undertook an extensive european tour in april/may 2005 that saw them cover the netherlands, belgium, france, germany and slovenia, playing 20 shows in 22 days. The blacklist have completed work on the follow up to 2004's "electric and evil" and with the release their second album "total blacklist" . Part animal, part machine: all ...
