Pastor Troy Face Off, Pt. 2 CD (2005)
Three 6 Mafia - Choices II: The Setup Movie and Soundtrack movie The first song on FACE OFF: PART II, "WWW? (Who Want War)," finds Atlanta, Georgia's Pastor Troy in a ferocious rage, challenging all comers; however, 15 tracks later, he closes the record with the swift-moving, but tenderly inspirational, "Keep on Movin'." This stark contrast is the norm for Pastor Troy. Throughout this album and his previous records, this reverend of crunk has made a tradition out of combining a rich, sincere spirituality with a hardcore urban vibe.
FACE OFF: PART II is Pastor Troy's sequel to his successful 2001 record, and is supremely faithful in its life-in-the-now mentality, in both its lyrics and the accompanying beats. He keeps up a relentless pace, roaring "I'm coming at ya" on "Murder Man," and spinning threats over a Halloween beat on "Get Dat Money Part II." Troy wraps his dirty Southern drawl around an inspired metal mix on "Acid Rain," and wistfully reflects on the pristine ballad backdrop of "Respect Game." FACE OFF: PART II reveals just a little more of the conflicted figure that is Pastor Troy.
Personnel: Pastor Troy (rap vocals); Pimpin' Ken, Little Pere (rap vocals).

Frayser Boy Me Being Me CD (2005)
Three 6 Mafia - Choices II: The Setup Movie and Soundtrack film The second album by Memphis rapper Frayser Boy, ME BEING ME continues the lyrical and stylistic threads he started on his own debut and the records of his mentors the Three 6 Mafia. But this album is sharper than GONE ON THAT BAY, which at times played like Dirty South-by-numbers. Tracks like the slamming single "I Got Dat Drank," with its guest shots from Southern rap phenoms Mike Jones and Paul Wall, and "Summe Tyme" are pretense-free party raps in the hardcore tradition, practically screaming for the inevitable chopped-and-screwed remix. Meanwhile, the darker "I Am a Problem" and "Stay Focused" keep Frayser Boy's street cred intact, while "Seen Thangs" has the edgy introspection of some of Ice Cube's best early work.
Personnel: Frayser Boy (rap vocals); Chrome, Lil Wyte, Mike Jones , Paul Wall , Boogie Mane (rap vocals).

DJ Paul Underground 16: For da Summa CD (2002)
Three 6 Mafia - Choices II: The Setup Movie and Soundtrack DVD for sale With his credentials as the self-styled "King of Memphis" and founding member of Three 6 Mafia, you'd be hard pressed to give DJ Paul any lessons in the art of bringing gangsta rap to an eager public. With UNDERGROUND VOL. 16 FOR DA SUMMA, his somewhat misleadingly titled debut solo effort, Paul is quick to provide instruction in both his community status ("Back Da Fuck Back") and, in "Still Gettin My Dick Sucked," his loverman expertise, which appears literally and metaphorically to be somewhere to the south of the late great Marvin Gaye's. Although the Dirty South is fairly old news nowadays, with the impact of a cut such as "Glock in My Draws" reduced by multiple exposures over the years, DJ Paul can still shock when he feels the urge--the visceral imagery of "Beatin These Hoes Down" is disturbing in the extreme--while in a more humorous mood he uses a loop of the Isley Brothers' guitar motif from "Summer Breeze" on "Twist It, Hit It, Lite It" in a compact ode to the power of mind-expanding drugs.

Choices: The Album CD (2001)
Three 6 Mafia - Choices II: The Setup Movie and Soundtrack movie This offering from the premier Memphis hip-hop crew can be seen as something of a concept album. As the title indicates, it deals with the choices one makes in life, specifically those choices made by the young urbanites that are the group's main audience. "Baby Mama," which was previously heard on the soundtrack to the John Singleton film BABY BOY, is a perfect example, an unwed-parents scenario that delves into juvenile court, child support, sugar daddies, and parental irresponsibility. "Gangsta Niggaz" represents another lifestyle choice that's all to prevalent in ghetto life, as the Mafia examines the contradictions inherent in the violent, often short life of a street criminal. The forceful rapping style and hard-hitting beats that run throughout CHOICES help the group's messages reach their targets quite effectively.
