This release contains a bonus video interview with Fareed Haque and clips of live footage. Contains an untitled hidden track on track # 12.
Guitarist Fareed Haque's Cosmic Hug is in many ways similar to the early-'70s fusion of Miles Davis although without utilizing any horns. The electric piano of Dan Limmer is very reminiscent of the era, as is the exotic use of Kalyan Pathak's tabla. The music includes some fairly simple one-chord grooves but also some accessible pieces that are much more complex than they sound. Haque's work on various guitars (which include an electric guitar, a steel string guitar, a classical guitar and a sitar guitar) is very fluent, sometimes heated and quite creative within the boundaries of this music. Fans of early fusion and of Haque's guitarwork will find much to enjoy on this creative and grooving set of original music. ~ Scott Yanow

Cosmic Hug album
$12.65 Chris Potter gets more and more adventurous. On this follow-up to the strong Gratitude, the tenor and soprano saxophonist beefs up strong writing and heady group interplay with occasional sampled sounds and miscellaneous textures like clavinet and reed organ. True to form, he plays additional wind instruments -- alto flute and bass clarinet in this case -- and isn't afraid of overdubbing them to create lush orchestration, on tracks like "Snake Oil" and "Any Moment Now." On the haunting "Invisible Man" he even doubles the alto flute melody ...
| | Miroslav Vitous Universal Syncopations CD (2003)
Cosmic Hug CD music
$14.65 On his first jazz date as a leader since 1992, Czechoslovakian bassist and composer Miroslav Vitous comes out of the gate with a host of heavyweights on one of the more lyrically swinging dates in modern jazz. Vitous' engaged, pulsing, and deeply woody tone is featured in the company of John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, and Jack DeJohnette. While the crystalline sound of Manfred Eicher's ECM is everywhere here, as is the open-ended speculative jazz that the label is renowned -- and ridiculed for -- Vitous offers some startlingly beautiful twists and turns with his ensemble. ...

| | Garaj Mahal Mondo Garaj CD (2003)
Cosmic Hug songs
$12.85 Recorded from 2000 to 2001 but finally released a year later as the band's first studio effort (after three live discs), Mondo Garaj captures Garaj Mahal in its relative infancy. Keyboardist Eric Levy had recently joined, and although he's prominent on these songs, his contributions have grown considerably since. In fact, only two songs from this album appeared on any of the subsequent live discs. But with musicians of the caliber and experience of bassist Kai Eckhardt, drummer Alan Hertz, and Fareed Haque on guitars, there is nothing tentative about this recording. Sounding like a combination of ...

Cosmic Hug album
$38.39 Digitally remastered by Doug Schwartz (Audio Mechanics, Los Angeles, California).
Besides being a touring warhorse, Lynyrd Skynyrd cranked out albums at a brisk rate during its original lineup's brief recording career, averaging at least one new release per year. 1975 saw the emergence of Skynyrd's third album in as many years, NUTHIN' FANCY.
While the album didn't contain a smash hit single as had its predecessors ("Free Bird," "Sweet Home Alabama," etc.), ...
