Gospel is a reissue of the 1975 Canaan Records album Flatt Gospel, originally credited to Lester Flatt & the Nashville Grass. The Nashville Grass were a top-notch band that included a young Marty Stuart on mandolin and guitar, Curly Seckler on high harmony vocals, Kenny Ingram on banjo, and Paul Warren on fiddle. Warren features prominently on an instrumental rendition of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," on which his constant slides lend a mesmerizing discordant quality that makes the cut a standout on a consistently fine album. Aside from that tune and a couple of other gospel favorites such as "Let the Church Roll On," Flatt sings lesser-known and original inspirational songs, including a remake of the Flatt & Scruggs oldie "God Loves His Children." Flatt Gospel was one of Flatt's best solo albums, but was not widely heard the first time around; perhaps this reissue will help it find a larger audience. ~ Greg Adams
Personnel: Marty Stewart (guitar, mandolin); Charles Nixon (dobro).

$15.65 Another May-December romantic comedy from Wilder starring Audrey Hepburn, this one pairs her with Gary Cooper in the City of Lights. Ariane Chavasse (Hepburn) is the daughter of a private detective (Maurice Chevalier), who has been hired by Mr. X, (John McGiver), a suspicious husband, to find out who his wife (Lise Bourdin) is seeing on the side. When he discovers the woman in the grip of millionaire playboy Frank Flannagan (Gary Cooper), he informs the predictably livid husband who loudly announces his intention to kill the interloper while Ariane is eavesdropping. She rushes off to warn Flannagan of his impending demise, which begins a series of afternoon meetings where she ...

$21.19 Given George Stevens' penchant for romantic comedy, it's probably not surprising that the WWII housing crunch in Washington, D.C. could provide fertile grounds for his imagination. The city's dearth of apartments has made things difficult even for 60-year-old millionaire Benjamin Dingle (Charles Coburn) who answers an ad for an apartment share only to find a long line of prospective tenants ahead of him. Claiming to be the apartment's tenant, he dismisses the others, before encountering Connie Milligan (Jean Arthur), the real leaseholder. Despite her initial reluctance to rent to a man, she gives him a trial week. While she's out the next day, Sgt. Joe Carter (Joel McCrea) arrives to inquire about the ad, and the enterprising Coburn offers him half of his room, which he accepts. Connie is angry after finding out about the second sublet and orders them both to leave, but realizes she has to let them stay, since she can't return ...
| | Jimmy Martin This World Is Not My Home CD (1963)
Gospel songs
$6.49 Piety and hard living aren't mutually exclusive -- just look at the complicated lives of Jerry Lee Lewis and Hank Williams. The late Jimmy Martin was another one of those rough characters who sometimes took a break from hell raising to do a little heaven raising, infusing his plangent bluegrass with a note of spiritual yearning and gospel fire. This World Is Not My Home is a straight reissue of a 1963 Decca album that contains religious songs Martin recorded between 1958-1962. The interesting subject matter and original material elevate the album above the typical hymns-and-standards country-gospel platter of its era. Martin had a hand in writing most of the songs, which deal with a range of spiritual issues, most prominently including the power of prayer. "Shut-In's Prayer" describes a homebound sufferer's plea for good health, and "God Guide Our Leader's Hand" expresses hope that nuclear war will be averted while simultaneously asserting that the end times ...
| | Dick Cavett Show - Comic Legends DVDs (2005) Digipak
Gospel album
$28.69 While its ratings never matched those of Johnny Carson's THE TONIGHT SHOW, Dick Cavett's 1960s and '70s late-night talk show was a staple of the era's pop culture, known for the charm and wit of its host as well as for the quality of its guests. This collection of episodes showcases the array of comic talent that visited Cavett on his show, which includes Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, Carol Burnett, the Smothers Brother, Groucho Marx, and Jerry Lewis.
Before there was Dick Cavett the talk show host, there was Dick Cavett the comedian. His early career as writer for Jack Paar and Johnny Carson naturally led him into the world of stand-up comedy, ...
| | Lubitsch Musicals DVDs (2008)
Gospel CD music
$41.69 In his witty and urbane comedies, director Ernst Lubitsch brought a whole new level of sophistication to the silent era. With the advent of sound, Lubitsch performed a similar feat, producing innovative and stylish musicals that helped to create a distinctive American genre. Made before strict adherence to the Hays morality code, these risqué films may surprise audiences expecting something more chaste from the 1920s and '30s! This classic collection presents the musicals LOVE PARADE, a battle of wills between an American babe and a sex-hungry Parisian (Lubitsch's talkie debut, and the first film to wed story to song); MONTE CARLO, a romance on the Riviera between a self-assured countess and a crafty count; ONE ...

| | Willard Grant Conspiracy Regard The End CD (2003)
Gospel album
$12.55 Robert Fisher, the literate, somber, and compelling mouthpiece for Gothic Americana ensemble Willard Grant Conspiracy, sings and speaks in an elegant -- perhaps a bit fabricated -- drawl that calls to mind Junior Brown doing Leon Redbone impersonating Nick Cave on a Tindersticks tribute record. His conversational demeanor and snowy imagery are the driving force behind the 11 tales of loss and redemption that constitute the band's latest collection, the ominously titled Regard the End. Beginning with the traditional "River in the Pines," the group establishes the last log in the fireplace warmth that has fueled their previous outings, creating an alternate universe of sepia-toned dread like an Andrew Wyeth painting come to life. Vocals are layered like steps on an old staircase on the beautiful "Trials of Harrison Hayes," an emotional tale of regret that features the soulful harmonies of Jess Klein. "The Ghost of the Girl in the Well" is a definite highlight, lent added weight by string players Josh Hillman and David Michael Curry, who wrap their bows around Kristin Hersh's reedy voice, eventually giving way to Fisher's mournful crooning. "Soft Hand" begins with a drum loop that, strangely enough, resembles the intro to Hall and Oates' "I Can't Go for That," before evolving into one of the record's lighter moments, with Fisher telling an upset significant other "There, I made you smile." Willard Grant Conspiracy are a chamber group. Like an ambitious version of the Scud Mountain Boys, they manage to appear out of nowhere in your living room, play an intimate set, and invoke every ghost from a 20-mile radius through your front door before leaving as quickly as they came. Regard the End may not be the opus they're bound to create, but it's their closest yet. ~ James Christopher Monger
Willard Grant Conspiracy, the band fronted by Robert Fisher with as many as 31 rotating members throughout the world, has completed its fifth "official" full-length album, kicking off their relationship with Kimchee Records. Regard The End follows 2000's Everything's Fine and previous albums Mojave (1999), Flying Low (1998), and 3 am Sunday @ Fortune Otto's (1996) with several key differences. Fisher's songwriting has begun its transition into weighty subject matters such as death, hope and faith, as traditional songs meld with new Fisher compositions in such a way that it's impossible to discern which is which. "River In The Pines" from 1865 sits beside "Beyond The Shore," a new composition, and the two are strangely unified. Additionally, the new album marks the departure of guitarist Paul Austin as a full-time member, although he appears on the disc. It was mostly recorded in Slovenia, a place the band happened to be at the moment the album wanted to be born. Eighteen musicians were enlisted to play on Regard the End, among them Chris Eckmen of The Walkabouts as well as Kristen Hersh (Throwing Muses), Blake Hazard, and Jess Klein, all of whom contribute vocals on the new album. Using a varied palate of acoustic and electric instruments including viola, trumpet, wheezing pump organs, grand pianos, violin, and acoustic and electric guitars, ...

Gospel CD music
$12.69 15 track CD recorded live at Edaline's March of 1999 performance with Braid and Seaweed at San Francisco's Bottom of the Hill. We believe that this is one of the most unpolished, yet endearing live recordings around. Unique in that it was recorded uncut from the beginning, through a couple mistakes and a broken bass string, to the end of the set. Also includes a remixed version of FHEP007, the 'Old City Scenes' 10-inch, featuring original bassist and co/writer, Mike Cassanova (of Suplex) document the classic and elaborate writing styles that to this day set Edaline apart from all other bands of their genre.•This, Edaline's live and first CD is the predecessor to their full-length studio CD 'I Wrote The Last Chapter For You' released on New York's Law of Inertia label.
