The personal and professional adventures of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) unfold once again in this fifth season of episodes from the show. This time out he's officially separated from Carmela (Edie Falco), but still beset by family problems and a wandering eye that strays into some dangerous territory. Christopher (Michael Imperioli), Paulie (Tony Sirico), and Silvio (Steve Van Zandt) still keep their eyes on the business end of Tony's life, while Anthony Jr. (Robert Iler) and Meadow (Jamie Lynn Sigler) learn some tough lessons as the offspring of a notorious mob boss. Tony's sister Janice (Aida Turturro) causes further problems for her beleaguered brother, including a stint in Anger Management classes, but fortunately the ever-reliable Dr. Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) is on hand to beat off Tony's advances and steady his nerves through her therapy sessions. Every episode from the award winning show's fifth season is included here. Sopranos - The Complete Fifth Season Reviews: "[Tony and Carmela are] two massive characters restored to their full wide-screen monstrosity, two massively talented actors about as car-crash magnetic as they've ever been."
-- Scott Brown, Entertainment Weekly "Still the best show on TV."
-- Dan Leigh, Uncut Ranked #2 in Uncut's Best TV DVDs Of 2005 -- "[T]his series was as intrigued by the inner machinations of the man as much as those of the mob."

Sopranos - The Complete Fifth Season Movie Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Unbelievably disappointing. A ghost of the show. After three fantastic seasons, and one decent one -- the 4th season for me is only occasionally good -- The Sopranos finally gets BORING. The episodes, FILLED with new characters (a traditional kiss of death to any once-great TV show), seem each like 3 hours long. Steve Buscemi joins the cast as Tony's cousin, and despite his great acting abilities it's hard to believe him in the part. As in season 4, the manners of the murders are far more grisly, the body count rises, and the lack of redemptive abilities of the main characters increases. This season was made for money; it was supposed to end before this. Season 4 should have been the proper end, and the Sopranos could have remained one of television's greatest dramas of all-time. This is a snooze-fest, EXTREMELY slow-moving, a soap-opera, and despite the great acting, with such extremely poor stories, you will lose more than your money if you buy this, you will lose 13 hours of your life you won't get back. Stick with the first 3 or 4 seasons, this one goes nowhere and is a painful-to-watch, boring shadow of a once-great show. Too many shows don't know when to stop; The Sopranos were unfortunately not immune to this syndrome.
Or do you love The Godfather III? It's your choice. Remember, sometimes sequels -- or seasons-- are just the same thing in name only, not in substance, quality, or even feel. Submitted by Joey (Alaska) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
season 5 rocks what a great addition to any soprano lover... season 5 ties up a lot of things, and still leaves with hopes for the final season Submitted by loririlling (apple valley MN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Sopranos - The Complete Fifth Season DVD His separation hasn't been working out. His nephew's fiance has become a distraction. His paroled cousin is giving off bad vibes. His business rival is looking for payback. His therapist isn't buying into the "other Tony." It's enough to send any mob boss over the edge. Hell hath no fury like The Sopranos.
