| | Chick Corea Paint The World CD Chick Corea Discography of CDs
After the departure of Dave Weckl, John Patitucci and Frank Gambale from the first Elektric Band, Chick Corea quickly assembled the Elektric Band II. Saxophonist Eric Marienthal returns from the first band to be joined by bassist Jimmy Earl, guitarist Mike Miller and drummer Gary Novak for PAINT THE WORLD, a new chapter in the continuing tale of modern electric jazz that refuses to lay down and become instrumental pop. Once again, Corea's tight, percussive keyboard technique dominates, with strong, tasteful support from his inventive rhythm section.
While this band doesn't quite generate the fire that the first group did, the performances here are first-rate. The group's sound has remained consistent, although there are subtle differences. Miller is a nimble guitarist, but less obvious than his predecessor. Earl is every bit the soloist Patitucci was, but he has his own unique voice on the six-string bass. Novak, too, is much more laid back than Weckl, but still cooks up plenty of spice, driving the group through many complex arrangements. Standout tracks include the shuffling title cut, the quirky "Tumba Island," Corea's signature work on "Spanish Sketch" and even a cover of Jimmy Heath's "CTA."
Recorded at Mad Hatter Studios, Los Angeles, California.

Paint The World album
$15.59 MAGIC features the innovated jazz sound of drummer Billy Cobham on this U.K. reissue release.
Of all Billy Cobham's Columbia fusion sessions, time has been the most unkind to Magic. Despite some inspired and at times awe-inspiring performances, the album is too much a product of its era, suffering ...

$18.99 Recorded in March 1974. Originally released on CTI Records. Includes liner notes by Didier C. Deutsch.
Though Idris Muhammad has been widely known as one of the finest jazz drummers since the '60s, he has an equal grounding in pop, funk, and rock. Recording in 1974 for CTI Records offshoot Kudu, he was afforded the perfect opportunity ...

Paint The World music CDs
$9.79 Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (1998, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California).
A touch lightweight at times but fun anyway, this set (reissued on CD in 1998) mostly puts the spotlight on vibraphonist Johnny Lytle. His backup group (organist Milt Harris, bassist Bob Cranshaw, drummer William "Peppy" Hinnant and percussionist Willie Rodriguez) is primarily in a very supportive role with Harris' often-bombastic solos looking more toward Wild Bill Davis and early '50s organ stylists than to Jimmy Smith. "The Village Caller" was a minor ...
| | Uncollected Kay Starr: In The 1940S CD (1994)
Paint The World songs
$6.75 A short and sweet little CD, this release presents 14 musical bon-bons, initially recorded for radio play in the 1940's. Kay Starr is at her freewheeling best as she belts out songs that, at the time were already old favorites, like "I Only Have Eyes For You" and "Pretty Baby." She is at once both economic and expansive in her phrasing on "I've Got My ...
| | Paul Cardall Sign Of Affection CD (2000)
Paint The World album
$9.99 Recorded live at Pinnacle Studios, Salt Lake City, Utah in October 1995. Includes liner notes by Paul Cardell.
Emotion pours literally from the first track on this solo piano album. Cardall begins the album with a tribute to a friend who passed away while in high school. From there, the music tackles love, despair, nature, and yearning in a very personal collection. Cardall's style is fluid for the most part. This is the kind of album that gets listeners' minds spinning so much that they forget they're listening to anything. Many value the ...
| | Extra Yard CD (2002)
Paint The World CD music
$12.65 Far and away Britain's finest hip-hop label (and one of the finest in the world), Big Dada spent its first five years assembling a crucial stable of producers and rappers who forged a fresh style owing surprisingly little to rap music of the American variety. The Big Dada sound is a meld of digital ragga with hip-hop breakbeats and a distinctly British West Indies style of rapping -- heavy on the flow and the verbiage. Extra Yard, the label's second compilation, is all unreleased and excellent from start to finish, the perfect way to sample the Big Dada style without risk of release overlap. Flagship rapper Roots Manuva gets no less than four tracks, two of them solid remixes ("Bashment Boogie," "Dreamy Days"), one a version of his massive track "Witness" rejuvenated with a posse of rappers, and the last a new track ("Born Again," with new name Wildflower). Veteran Ty wins the best-track sweepstakes with "We Don't Care," driven by a deep, distorted bassline ...
| | Gil Evans Individualism Of Gil CD (1964) (Import) Japan
Paint The World music CDs
$31.39 If it contained nothing else than than the ravishing slow version of Kurt Weill's "Barbara Song," 1964's THE INDIVIDUALISM OF GIL EVANS would still rate as one of the greatest of '60s jazz LPs. It's possible that tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter never surpassed his solo here, which is similar in impact to the young Stan Getz's career-defining turn on Woody Herman's "Summer Sequence Pt. IV." Even though the original "Barbara Song" from THE THREEPENNY OPERA ...
