This film features the voices of Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Elle Russ, and Stanley G. Sawicki. In a satire of a Hollywood action movie, an action hero is recruited to join Team America for a special mission. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the masterminds behind SOUTH PARK, turn their attention to marionettes and politics in the riotous spoof TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE. Combining the puppetry of the mid-1960s series THUNDERBIRDS with action/disaster flicks produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (TOP GUN, ARMAGEDDON, PEARL HARBOR), Parker and Stone tell the story of a small group of heroic figures who span the globe protecting democracy and freedom against terrorism. Along the way, they destroy such famous international landmarks as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sphinx in Egypt, and the Panama Canal. All the while they are developing close relationships that lead to love, jealousy, and betrayal. Their primary mission is to stop North Korean leader Kim Jong Il's peace conference, which is a ruse to allow him to attack the rest of the world with his weapons of mass destruction. Team America must also take on F.A.G., the Film Actors Guild, which is supporting the peace conference, including such participants as Alec Baldwin, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, George Clooney, and other actors who have spoken out against the war in Iraq (but did not agree to be spoofed in the film). Parker and Stone reserve a special message for FAHRENHEIT 9/11 director Michael Moore, and even former UN weapons inspector Hans Blix shows up. Among the very funny--and very dirty--songs in the film are "Everyone Has AIDS" (from the Broadway musical LEASE), "Only a Woman" (about homosexuality), and "I'm So Ronery" (Kim Jong Il's soaring solo). Despite having no actual humans in it, the movie earns its R rating with lots of blood, very adult language, and a steamy puppet sex scene. Team America Reviews: "Of course Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone are joking -- what else is new? -- but like most good jokers, they also mean exactly what they say."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "[A] gleeful, politically incorrect melange of mischief and mockery..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "[O]utrageously, gut-bustingly hilarious....It's also a ruthlessly clever musical..."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "[A]s a comedy, TEAM AMERICA is at its funniest when it plays things straight, mimicking the cheesy dialogue and corny, cliché-ridden plot mechanics of the action genre."
-- Leslie Felperin, Sight and Sound "[Stone and Parker are] indisputably the funniest film-makers currently working in the world today."
-- Simon Lewis, Uncut Ranked #9 in Uncut's Best Films Of 2005 -- "Extravagantly tasteless....Sending up everything from liberal Hollywood to America's war on terror and 1980s high-concept action movies."

Insanely funny! You know it's from the makers of South Park, so you should definitely know that it's not for kids! It starts off a little slow, but then it picks up and it's so freakin funny! The things they do with these puppets, will have you rolling on the floor! If this movie doesn't make you laugh, you need a brain transplant! Submitted by Lance (New Jersey) Was This Review Helpful? goofy silly fun If you have any leanings towards this type of humor, this is one of those movies you can't help but laugh at. Rather than trying to hide the strings holding the puppets, they are in full evidence as if to emphasize the joke.
But its not the fact that they are puppets that makes this movie fun to watch, rather its the story and the way its told. From the goofy disguises to the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) you simply never know what is going to happen. Many times during the movie you will be caught completely by surprise as something totally unexpected is thrown at you.
I found it quite interesting in that although everything is played to excess for a laugh, many of the themes shown in the movie have their basis in real life, from the garishly red, white and blue American equipment to their callous disregard for other cultures to the SAG's leanings toward government.
The DVD holds many extras, including a wealth of information on how the sets and puppets were made and activated - which I found personally interesting. Also included were the "extended" and "deleted" scenes.
If you were a fan of the old puppet series: Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, etc. or if you like silly goofy humor with an edge to it such as South Park, Monty Python, early Adam Sandler, etc. and you are looking for a funny, laugh-out-loud movie filled with explosions, bad language, singing bad-guys, crude humor and puppet sex..then I highly recommend this one. | | Tesla Into The Now CD (2004)
Team America DVD
$8.49 Unfairly labeled a hair-metal band, Tesla was always closer to the spirit of vintage 1970s hard rock. When the group released 1994's BUST A NUT, grunge rock was in full swing, and the Sacramento quintet subsequently took their curtain call, keeping busy with low-profile side projects. Testing the waters in 2000, Tesla launched a successful reunion tour, proving the band's enduring appeal. INTO THE NOW stands as their first full-length studio effort in 10 years.
The core of Tesla's sound has been updated with a fresh and contemporary flavor, but it's still very much their own. Jeff Keith's voice retains its heartfelt grit and grease, while guitarists Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeotch have noticeably absorbed some nu-metal influences in the band's downtime. Downtuned, post-grunge riffs drive tracks such as "Miles Away," "Mighty Mouse," and the aptly named title track. Still, Tesla are truly in their element ...

$11.79 Adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novels, SIN CITY is Robert Rodriguez's striking film noir infused with fantasy, taking place in a world where it is eternally nighttime and everything is drenched in rain and violence. Using a unique combination of silvery black and white digital photography with occasional flashes of bright color for dazzling punctuation, Rodriguez employs green screen techniques and paints a backdrop around each scene, using Miller's co-direction as his cue to match the original setting as closely as possible. Three stories weave together, occasionally overlapping. With lines delivered flatly in the hard-boiled style of Raymond Chandler, these tales are about crime, love, loss, and being preternaturally tough. In the most caustically dramatic segment, ...
